We continue to have a great start to the year. Students and teachers are working on expectations around the school which is having a very positive impact on the culture of the school. These expectations are improving interaction between people, supporting increased respect for self and others, and promoting a culture of cohesion and collective responsibility.
Last week we held our first assembly in the gym. It was awesome to see so many responsive parents wearing correct footwear in the space. Our Year 6 leaders received their leadership badges. I am sure they will wear them with pride. We have noted changes we need to make to the process of assembly for it to run in a better fashion moving forward. We will continue to make changes until we have ironed out all our little issues. School Council is planning a fun opening event with the date yet to be confirmed due to staffing issues.
Colour Fun Run
Exciting news that our Colour Run is back to support a whole school initiative!! It is such a fun afternoon that the children love. This years focus for the funds raised, is to install sound and lighting for our new gymnasium which will be used for school performances later this year and for years to come. When this was costed in the tender process it was in excess of $100,000. We will complete the essential project for hopefully under $60,000.
It is a massive complex project that ties in to our school values of providing a place to shine, connected to community and especially being here for the students. So many tender options were removed from our 8.3 million dollar build leaving the school responsible to fund basic functionality. As a community focused facility there is some equipment that is fundamental to this purpose. Our last Fun Run raised money for Leo our therapy dog. To this day we are still using every cent of those funds exclusively on Leo to cover specialised therapy dog training, food, insurance, grooming, etc.
