As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the achievements, learning, and growth of our students. I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned holiday break and returns ready and refreshed for an exciting Term 4.

Maths Games Day

Earlier this term, some math-minded students from Year 8 had the opportunity to travel to Mirboo Secondary College for the Mathematical Association of Victoria's Maths Game Day.

"Our team took part in a few activities, including fitting cash into a box and getting the targeted number. The first game, Fitting the Cash into the Box, required us to place three different shapes—a triangle, an octagon, and a square—into a box. Each shape had a different value, and the goal was to fit as many as possible. The team with the highest total value of shapes won. The second game, Getting the Targeted Number, involved filling in a bracket to reach a specific number exactly. Overall, our team won the games and we received hats and shirts as prizes." – Jun Wei Tan, 8A

Basketball

In Week 7, Year 8s represented Kurnai at the Wellington District Round Basketball.

The girls finished with 1 win and 2 losses, but their teamwork, energy, and communication were highlights of the day. With constant support for each other and encouragement from the bench, they displayed great resilience and team spirit.

Splitting their two games with 1 win and 1 loss, the Year 8 boys showed energy, resilience, and excellent teamwork. Their commitment and effort throughout the day were fantastic.

Learning Behaviour Update

In Year 8, we have been focusing on high expectations and goal setting, which is evident in the 40 students who attended our August LBU hot chip lunch. This lunch is put on for students who have received an exemplary LBU of over 3.5. It is becoming a great tradition to recognise and reward hard work.
