Message from our
Campus Principal
As Term 3 comes to a close, I want to congratulate all students and staff for another busy and successful term. From outstanding music performances to sports events and thinking championships, the term has certainly been eventful. I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break, and I look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for Term 4.
R U OK? Day is all about checking in with the people around us and making sure no one’s going through life’s ups and downs alone. A simple “Are you OK?” can go a long way in starting conversations that really matter.
To mark the day, we put on a free sausage sizzle and handed out cupcakes that our students had made in food tech. It was a great excuse for everyone to stop, grab a bite, and have a chat. Sometimes the best conversations happen over a snag or a bit of cake.
And while R U OK? Day is one day on the calendar, the message is for every day. Asking the question doesn’t need a special occasion — it’s something we can all do anytime.
History Day is almost here! On Thursday the 18th of September, students in Years 8–10 will step back in time as we run our annual event. All students will be joining together to celebrate the end of term with our historical feast, straight from the ancient, medieval and war times. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed in their best historical costume — from ancient times right through to the WW1 period. Get creative, have fun with it, and remember there are prizes for the top 3 outfits! Staff are also encouraged to join in the dress-up spirit. The day will run as the Kurnai People’s Republic, with everyone working together and no regular classes running. From medieval dress competitions to engaging activities, it promises to be a great day of learning, laughter, and a little bit of friendly competition.
Our music students have once again done us proud at the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod. Competing against some of the largest ensembles from across Gippsland, many with more than 50 musicians, and largely made up of adults. Our students rose to the challenge and delivered outstanding performances.
We are delighted to share that our groups achieved:
These achievements highlight the dedication, talent, and commitment of our young musicians, as well as the strength of our music program. These impressive results highlight the dedication, talent, and commitment of our young musicians.
A special congratulations goes to our Churchill Campus students, Milla Towers and Lily Skyes, for their excellent contributions. Lily also proudly represented our school in a WIN News interview, alongside students from Morwell and University campuses.
Thank you to all staff who supported our students on the night, and especially to the music team: Chris Gretton, Ian Hopkins, Kathryn Sims, Hayden May, and Michael Brandon — for their outstanding preparation and guidance.
Parent-Teacher Conversations are coming up on Thursday, 18th November, and Friday, 19th November. It’s a great chance to catch up with teachers, see how your child is going, celebrate their wins, and have a chat about any goals for the rest of the year.
You can book in time slots online through COMPASS, or give the front office a call if you need a hand. We encourage everyone to come in and chat with us about your child’s education.
We are proud to share that Ruby Whelan, Cody Samblebe and Stanley Bartel have been representing our school at the Gnurad-Gundidj Campus – School for Student Leadership this term. The program has provided them with valuable opportunities to grow in leadership, teamwork, and community engagement.
We have received positive feedback about their involvement and the way they have embraced the challenges and experiences on campus.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Ruby, Cody and Stanley back in Term 4, when they will complete their Community Learning Project. Together, they will be working with local Primary students on a clean-up initiative at Mathison Park, helping to improve the environment and strengthen community pride.
We look forward to supporting their efforts and celebrating the impact of their project in the months ahead.
Today, we’re excited to welcome back our Year 10 students from their five-day Tasmania Camp. It sounds like they’ve had an amazing time exploring, trying new things, and making memories along the way. We can’t wait to hear all the stories and see what highlights they bring back from the adventure!
Paul and the Maintenance Team have been working hard on classroom refurbishments around our campus.
GP11 upgrades are almost complete, with a new whiteboard and student furniture included. We are excited to welcome classes back into the room at the start of next term.
Maintenance works will continue with Computer Room 2 & GP10 early next term.
