Porscia Lam is a Melbourne author who has recently published a book called The Unlocking: An Autism Story. It is a memoir about raising ther son who has Pathological Demand Avoidance, and her family’s experience with early intervention and successfully getting him school-ready.
The book is currently in Booktopia’s Top 20 Biographies and True Stories, it was also shortlisted for the Hawkeye Manuscript Development Prize in 2024. It is recommended by Autism Awareness Australia and she was a guest at their speaker event in Sydney last week (https://youtu.be/jpOEI04z1lI)
Porscia will be running an author talk at Melton Library on Monday 2 June, and is reaching out to families who might be interested. She will talk about how her therapists tweaked the traditional strategies used for autism to suit PDA in early childhood: https://libraryevents.melton.vic.gov.au/event?id=144080
The event is free. The Unlocking is available to loan through Melton Library, and can be purchased locally at Collins Booksellers Sunbury or via major online retailers.
