Tournament of Minds

On Sunday the 14th of September, seven teams of excited Girton students travelled to Deakin University in Burwood to compete in the Victorian State Finals of Tournament of Minds.

This was a fantastic day of problem solving, teamwork and many creative solutions. All students were placed in a room for three hours where they worked on the solution to a problem in their respective teams. Students all worked collaboratively on solving their problems, then performed their solution in the form of a ten-minute skit to a panel of judges. These solutions incorporated song, comedy and lots of improvisation.

All teams also completed a spontaneous challenge, where a question was posed, and they had four minutes to create a detailed and thorough solution to the problem.

Our Girton teams did extremely well on the day of the final and gained first place in four of the eight categories, as well as receiving honours in Secondary ARTS and Secondary Language Literature, the Primary STEM, Primary ARTS, Secondary STEM and Secondary Social Science. The winners will travel to Darwin in Term 4, Week 4 to compete in the Tournament of Minds International Final. This is an incredible achievement, and we wish them all the best at the International Final.

A very special thank you to Mrs Bath, Mr Leske, Ms Milner, Mrs Byron, Mr Turner, Karthi Balraj, Mrs Ziffer and the friends and family that came to support the teams on the day. The tournament wouldn't have been possible without all your enthusiasm and support.
