Advent

This Sunday is the start of Advent. Yesterday we celebrated this special time with a Prayer Service in the church led by our Mini Vinnies team. They did an absolutely marvelous job. They spoke about the importance of light during advent and the importance of community.

Community is at the heart of the Advent season, a time when we prepare with hope, patience and expectation for the coming of Christ. Advent invites us to slow down, reflect and reconnect, not only with God, but with one another. The Advent message reminds us that we are created for relationship, belonging and shared purpose.

During Advent, community becomes a sign of God’s presence. When we gather to pray, light the Advent wreath, or share acts of kindness, we strengthen the bonds that hold us together. These simple rituals help us remember that faith is not lived in isolation; it grows when people listen, support, and walk alongside each other.

Advent also calls us to look outward with compassion. As we wait for Christ, we are reminded to care for the vulnerable, include the lonely, and reach out to those in need. Community becomes a place where hope is made visible, through generosity, welcome and shared celebration.

Ultimately, the importance of community in Advent lies in its power to reflect the light of Christ. When we come together with open hearts, we help create a world shaped by love, peace and the promise of new beginnings.
