Principal's News

Dear Famlies of Trinity Primary School,
Fire Carriers
This morning six of our Year 3&4 children were comissioned as Fire Carriers for Trinity Primary School. They join a number of staff who were also comissioned earlier this year. Ms Annie, who is our Fire Carriers Coordinator, prepared a very special comissioning ceremony for all students and a number of parents who joined us to hear about the work they will do and the responsibility they will carry in further embedding our awareness and respect for our First Nations People. I have included below an introduction by Ms Ellen who is also a Trinity Fire Carrier.
We are proud to gather today to nominate FIRE Carrier leaders for the year to come. FIRE Carrier stands for Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. This program is run by Opening The Doors Foundation, a First Nations led organisation supporting educational opportunities for First Nations children across Australia. Since 2009 the FIRE carriers program has expanded to over 100 schools, and we are proud to be joining them this year.
FIRE carrier schools are committed to furthering reconciliation at their school and supporting self-determination in education for First Nations families. We are proud to live in a country with the world’s oldest cultures, and acknowledging the strength, complexity, and vast knowledge of our country's over 250 language groups is so important. Australia's first Treaty has recently passed for Victoria, forming a relationship between our government and Indigenous leaders across the state. It’s an exciting time to learn about first nations stories!
FIRE Carrier students will be leaders in promoting respect, fairness and inclusion at our school. They will be committed to engaging in meaningful learning about Aboriginal cultures and histories, and sharing this knowledge with the school community.
So far the FIRE carriers program at our school has engaged with students to write our new School acknowledgement of country, and covenant, which is similar to a reconciliation action plan, laying out our goals for meaningful change. Student leaders will brainstorm new ideas for the program, inspire others to continue learning, and work towards completing the goals of the covenant, which has a focus on student and First Nation’s voices.
Today we congratulate 6 leaders across year 3 & 4 who are becoming FIRE Carriers. Ms Ellen
Leadership Speeches
If the parents of next year's Year 6s could have been present on Monday morning to hear the outstanding leadership speeches given by their children they would have been extremely proud of each one of them. As teachers and school leaders it was uplifting to hear such genuine and well thought out presentations given so confidently by every single child. Our year 3s, 4s and 5s then had the great responsibility of voting for the person and people who they thought would best suit each of the leadership roles offered at Trinty Primary School. Our 2026 school leaders will be announced later in the year and will be presented with their leadership badges next year.
Class Lists
Our teachers are currently finalizing class lists for 2026. This is a very involved process which involves carefully looking at the needs of each child both academically and socially. All children will nominate five friends they would like to be placed with and will generally be guaranteed to be with at least one of those. Once the lists are finalized children will fnd out which class and teacher they will be with on Step Up Day in the coming weeks.
School Fees 2026
As I am sure you are all aware, along with Government funding, our school fees are an important component of the overall income received by the school to enable our programs, resources and staffing to be efffectively planned for each year. Each year our school fees do increase by approximately 7%. Over the next few years MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) are required to make slightly larger increases as part of the process of each school's Capacity to Contribute. Trinity Primary School endeavours to keep our fees as affordable as possible to make a Catholic School Education affordale and available for all families. If at any time families may face finacial challenges I am always available to discuss options or support that may be available. Next year's fees will rise slightly more than normal with an approximate 10% increase in some areas. The final fee structure for 2026 will be communicated in coming weeks.
Building Relocations
A final tender has now been awarded which means all systems are go for our building project to commence, with demolitions expected throughout January. The timing of this will ensure that much of the most extreme noise will happen throughout the school holidays when no staff or students are present. Whilst we are extemely excited about our upcoming building project this does mean that before the end of the year we will need to relocate all our Year 3/4 classes to the Library and the MPR as well as our staff. The Year 3/4s will continue working from these areas which will be set up suitaby to ensure all normal learning programs and access to resources take place. Initial timelines suggest that these classes will be able to return to the new learning areas from the start of Term 4. However, for anyone who has built a house or renovated we understand that sometimes these timelines can be best case scenario and that flexibilty will be needed if this is not the case.
