Music News
Welcome to all our new music students and families, and welcome back to returning students and families!
Over the summer holidays, 25 Belmont High School students attended the annual Geelong Summer Music Camp, participating in rehearsals and electives, and ending the Camp with a fabulous concert at Costa Hall. This was by far the highest number of participants from any single school, and our students really made the most of this wonderful opportunity. Many thanks to our Music Support Group for supporting four students to attend this camp for the first time.
This year Miranda Linton received the Surf Coast Wind Symphony award for her outstanding contribution to the group throughout the camp, a wonderful acknowledgement of the positive social and musical contribution she made to her ensemble. Congratulations Miranda!
In other exciting news, Declan Chandler (class of 2025) has been selected for the TopClass Music Season of excellence Concert for his Composition for Saxophone Quartet, ‘Loose Ends’. His work was also chosen to feature in the VSV showcase ‘Making Waves’ last December. Congratulations to Declan for his inspirational work in the composition space!
Lessons and rehearsals have begun, with many Year 7 students taking up the opportunity to learn a new skill on an instrument. Check out the options available to you – all levels of experience welcomed.
The new Year 7 Rock band program has kicked off, with three bands rehearsing in Band room 2 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes. There are still a few vocalist vacancies in two of the bands, so please see Ms Humphrey in the band room if you are interested in joining this fun program as a singer.
Oboe/Trombone/Tuba/Percussion/String Players wanted for the State School Spectacular Orchestra.
Rehearsals take place in Collingwood on Saturday afternoons, and you will perform at 2 arena Shows on August 29th and be filmed for the TV broadcast. This is an amazing experience to be part of, working with the best of the state’s student musicians, with world class conductors.
