NGV Creativity Club – Painting with Deanne Gilson
During the school holidays, on Friday 3 July, I attended an art workshop at the NGV with students from a range of Victorian state schools.
We spent the whole day learning from artist Deanne Gilson, who is well known for her beautiful paintings of native Australian plants.
Deanne taught us how to create texture in our artwork using natural materials.
We used oak wood, charcoal and acrylic paint to produce our own paintings inspired by native plants.
It was a wonderful experience learning from such a talented artist and seeing her unique artistic style up close.
I really enjoyed the workshop and have learnt new painting techniques that I hope to use in my future artworks.

Grade 3 Uluru Writing
This term, Grade 3 have been learning about the geography of Australia. Specifically, we investigated Australia’s six states and two territories, including their capital cities, along with some of our nation’s most iconic landmarks.
For example, the Daintree Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef and the Grampians.
To apply our learning, we wrote descriptive paragraphs about the spiritual heart of Australia, Uluru. We were challenged to paint a picture with our words, so that our audience could imagine they were right there in Central Australia. We revised, edited and received feedback on our writing, before typing up our work and publishing it with some pictures and traditional symbols.

Maths Talent Quest 2026
Every year, all students at Templestowe Park Primary School participate in the Mathematical Association of Victoria's Maths Talent Quest, also know as MTQ. Within this program, students investigate a topic based on their personal learning interests and apply mathematics within that context. It helps them discover how mathematics is used and found in the world around them, providing a rich and engaging hands-on learning experience.
This year students engaged in a variety of topics for their class investigations, held from Prep - Grade 4. These included, linking them to their Inquiry units, excursions, popular picture story books and even their favourite sports. Please see each classrooms' topic below:

Up, Up and Away... We’re 100 Days Brighter Today!
What a fantastic day our Prep students had celebrating 100 Days of School! With our special theme, 'Up, Up and Away... We’re 100 Days Brighter Today!', we spent the day recognising 100 days of learning, laughter and growth.
Our celebrations were filled with fun and excitement as students designed and created their own colourful hats, decorated delicious biscuits and showed off their best dance moves at our disco.
Over the past 100 days, our Prep students have grown in confidence, made new friends, learnt new skills and embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. It was wonderful to take a moment to celebrate just how much they have achieved since their very first day of school.
Congratulations to our amazing Prep students on reaching this special milestone. We are so proud of all you have accomplished and can't wait to see where the next 100 days of learning take you!
Grade 1 Leogland Excursion
On Thursday 30th July, our Grade 1 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre at Chadstone.
Throughout the day, students participated in a range of interactive building challenges, including constructing towers, designing and testing race cars, building cars with launchers, and exploring many other hands-on activities.
This engaging experience complemented our Term 3 Inquiry unit, “What makes things move?”, by encouraging students to investigate movement, design, problem-solving, and creativity in a fun and meaningful way.
A big thank you to our parent helpers who supported the excursion and helped make the day such a success.
Legoland Writing : - We have been learning about the subordinating conjunctions 'before', 'after' and 'when' to make interesting sentences. Read about our Legoland experience using these words.
Before we went to Legoland, we did the roll. When we were at Legoland, we went on a train ride. After Legoland we went on the bus and I loved it because it was my favourite colour orange. By Ava 1D

On Thursday we went to Legoland. Before we got there, we counted all of the children. When we went there, the first thing we did was a workshop where we learned how to build a car launcher. After the workshop we got free time playing! I had so much fun at Legoland. By Ariana 1W

Tempy’s Got Talent
There are many talented students at TPPS, but which house has the most talent?
This term, we are on a quest to find out!
Students will be given class time to practise and prepare a talent in one of three categories: dance, music or drama. Students who do not wish to participate in the competition do not have to. The purpose of this experience is for students to build their confidence and enjoy performing.
Students who choose to compete will perform for Ms Huber during their Performing Arts class. Selected students will then progress to the semi-finals, where they will perform for their house and earn points for their house.
Semi-Finals -
Grades 3–6: Friday 21 August (Week 6), 2:45 pm–3:30 pm
Prep–Grade 2: Friday 4 September (Week 8), 2:45 pm–3:30 pm
Grand Final
The grand final will take place during the last week of Term 3. Each house will have one Prep–Grade 2 representative and one Grade 3–6 representative.
The eight grand finalists will perform for the whole school under the COLA, showcasing their talents.
The winning students will earn house points for representing their house and receive a gift card.
The grand final will be held on Tuesday 15 September from 12:45 pm. Parents are welcome to attend if their child is performing in the grand final.
Important Information
- Performances should be one minute long, with a 20-second leeway.
- Students who choose to compete will select their talent and form their own working groups.
- Students are responsible for bringing any equipment they need, such as sheet music, costumes or props.
- Students must come to school in their school uniform and change into any costumes before performing.
- Keyboards will be provided for students performing piano pieces. Students performing with other instruments or equipment are responsible for bringing their own equipment.
