Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,

Welcome back to Term 2. It has certainly been a lovely transition back, whilst we make the most of the unusually warm Autumn weather.

In Week 1, our College commemorated ANZAC Day in a special whole College assembly service. Students listened to reflective speeches, poems and performances that all acknowledge the challenges of war, whilst honouring the sacrifice and service of many courageous Australians, both in the past and currently serving. Our College Captains attended the dawn service at Laurimar on April 25th, to represent the College and pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest we forget.

This week, our teaching staff were excited to be able to meet with many of our families for Parent/Teacher Interviews. If you were not able to attend, please ensure you continue to check out Compass for your child's learning task results and progress. We encourage you to keep in contact with classroom teachers about your child's learning, and welcome emails and phone calls from the community.

With the change in weather and your young person growing between seasons, it's a timely reminder to ensure you are aware of our College Uniform Policy, which is available on the College website. Students can choose to wear either their complete academic or complete sport uniform, however it is important to note that it must be worn properly. Thank you to our families for your support in ensuring a sense of responsibility, pride and high standards for our students.

We welcome all of our HGC mothers and special people in the community to our Mother's Day breakfast on the 8th of May. Please join us between 7:15am - 8:30am in the Performing Arts Centre. We kindly ask you to book with our Expression of Interest form so we can cater for the correct numbers by Wednesday, 6th May at 2:00pm. To do so, please book here: https://www.trybooking.com/DLTHP

A reminder to families and students of Year 10, that work experience is commencing in Week 4 (May 11th-May 15th). Work experience is an incredible opportunity for our students to trial out a potential future workplace of interest. Please reach out to the Year 10 Leadership or Pathways team if you have any questions about the process.

You can check out the 'Key Dates' section of the newsletter for other important upcoming events happening this term.

Lastly, 'Connect First' is our theme for 2026, as we know how vital it is for all students to experience a sense of connectedness to school. Attendance at homegroup is one of the most meaningful ways a young person can develop strong and healthy connections with their teachers and peers. We are also offering a range of lunchtime clubs for students to engage in. Clubs are another wonderful way for students to build connections with each other.

Thank you for taking the time to read our first Term 2 newsletter and keep in touch with what is happening at Hazel Glen College in the Secondary Years.

Warm regards,
