Celebrations of Learning and Community

11 VCE VM Bunnings Excursion

On Thursday 12th and 19th March a small group of year 11 VCEVM students attended Bunnings Warehouse, Mernda to participate in the Teens In Trade program. Students worked collaboratively to build a flat pack pantry to donate to Reach World Wide Australia, who currently provides and runs community food pantries and food hamper distributions to families facing food insecurity within the municipality of Whittlesea.

Students engaged in various VET programs worked well together to build the pantry and were invited to return to Bunnings for a delicious afternoon tea, where they listened to information regarding Reach World Wide’s beginnings during COVID and the important work they continue to do within our community to supply families in need with wholesome food and groceries.

Students then presented the pantry and assisted with its delivery to the van that would transport it to Lalor library to be used in their community pantry program. All students are to be congratulated on their teamwork, organisation, enthusiasm and community engagement. Well done to Oliver M, Lucas C, Lucas F, Jacob M-W, Ben C, Tara C, Ebonnie B and Jessica C for their participation and to Olivia & Michelle from Bunnings for making it happen.

Hazel Glen College House Program

Hazel Glen College’s House Program continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to get involved, connect with peers, and represent their House with pride. Through key events in Term One, such as House Swimming and Athletics, alongside a range of other extra-curricular activities, students are encouraged to participate, build teamwork, and contribute to a vibrant College culture.

In Term Two, Beachley has taken a strong lead on the leaderboard, setting the pace ahead of McGrath. Meanwhile, Chang, Stynes, Goodes, and Wood remain locked in a competitive contest for third place, highlighting the enthusiasm and determination across all Houses. The ongoing engagement in the House Program reflects the positive spirit and active participation of students throughout the college.

Students can continue to gain points for their Houses through opportunities in Term Two and by receiving Values awards for displaying our four R's; Relationships, Responsibility, Resilience and Respect.

Year 7 Boys and Girls Volleyball

Our Year 7 Boys and Girls Volleyball teams competed in their gala day on Friday 24th April. Both teams showed strong effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day but were unable to progress to the next stage. Well done to all students involved for representing the College positively.

Upcoming Event

Year 7–12 Cross Country is our next event, with a squad of 24 students preparing to represent the College. The group is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Sign Ups Closed:

Sign ups for all Term 2 sports are now closed, and we’ve had a fantastic response across all year levels. There is plenty of excitement building as students prepare for another big term of sport. All students who signed up will be contacted via their College email by coaches with information regarding tryouts and upcoming training sessions.

Year 9 City Experience - Shrine of Remembrance

During our City Experience over the past two weeks, Year 9 students were fortunate enough to visit the Shrine of Remembrance. We had an amazing opportunity to learn about how soldiers sacrificed their lives to secure a better future for all Australians. We spent most of our time exploring displays and galleries, which had a huge collection of medals, uniforms and personal letters. We were also lucky enough to be guided by volunteers who shared their knowledge and explained the hidden details behind the exhibits. To end off our learning, we conducted interviews with members of the public, asking them our chosen questions on ANZAC Day and what their traditions are. This gave us a different view on how citizens continue to carry down the history.

ANZAC Day - Poppy Display

As a part of VCE History, our Year 11 classes all made their way down to the PAC at recess and lunch and coloured in poppies that the history teachers had cut out. It was great to see so many students choosing to do a small gesture to show support for those serving and who have served.
