YEAR 7
Starting Well

Head of Year 7
As we enter Week 10, it brings an opportunity to reflect on our Year 7 theme of ‘Starting Well Together’. It truly has been a successful term. From the frenetic pace of the first few weeks, students have settled wonderfully into routines, formed new friendships, and many students are exploring the wonderful extra-curricular activities available at St Mary’s.
Thank you for your partnership and support from home. I wish all families a safe, restful and rejuvenating holiday break.
During Week 10, Pastoral Mentors will conduct a laptop check to ensure all equipment relevant to the College laptops is in the possession of the student and in good working order. This will include:
Students have their laptop bag and charger.
Any damage or concerns will be addressed through the ‘Accidental Damage’ process for repair.
Throughout this term, the College has communicated its updated shoe policy via the College Bulletin. It has been included again below for your reference.
This week, Pastoral Mentors will be conducting spot checks on the students' formal and sports shoes. The aim is to be able to communicate with families if any footwear does not meet the updated policy.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
A reminder that students are required to clean out their lockers on their last day of term. This is important for the safety and security of the College, ensuring no valuables are left on-site during the two-week break.
Pastoral Mentors will assist students in storing their Mathematics and Humanities textbooks in PG rooms and will direct them to attach their locks to their school bags. We appreciate your support in ensuring this is completed on your child’s final day of term.
Report cards will be available for families to view via the Learning Dashboard in the MyCE App on Thursday, 2 April. Please take the time to discuss these with your child, identifying areas of strength, opportunities for improvement, and the growth they have demonstrated since last year. These conversations are invaluable in celebrating student success and encouraging responsibility for learning. If you have any difficulty accessing your child's report, please contact the College for guidance.

Please note, the Family Connect meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 31 March has been cancelled. The next meeting will be in Week 5: Tuesday, 19 May. This will be a parent information evening with the College Counsellors. Further details to come.

At the College, students are required to adhere to the uniform and personal grooming guide. We want to support families, students, and teachers in understanding specific requirements, particularly for sports shoes. We know students are currently wearing shoes in the 'not suitable' section of the graphic below.
To provide clarity, we have listed the main shoes worn by students with their sports uniforms that require fixing and shoes must meet expectations for the start of Term 2. This provides you and your family time to make changes to comply with the uniform guideline outlined in the College Diary under Uniforms: Sport shoes - low cut, supportive, lace-up, all-purpose shoes for running with a suitable grip. Colour scheme should be discreet. Skate shoes and other flat-soled shoes are not acceptable.
The shoes shown in the graphic below are examples we frequently see; they are not the ONLY shoes not permitted. If you are unsure of the correct shoes, please send a picture or ask your child to speak with the Head of Year for clarification. Uniform infringement consequences will come into play at the commencement of Term 2. We appreciate your support in making it very clear what we expect regarding appropriate footwear at the College.

Please note that all key dates are listed in the College Calendar. This can be accessed via the MyCE Parent App and synced with your personal calendar.
