Principal Report

Dear Families,
What a wonderful term we have experienced here at Ballarat Primary School (Dana Street). It is hard to believe that we have already experienced a whole term of learning! We are so lucky to have such an inclusive and welcoming school, and I have experienced this first-hand since my arrival.
School Values Awards
At the end of each term, we celebrate the achievements of some amazing students. This term, we celebrated Yura K, Oliver B and Stella B. These three students have demonstrated, each and every day, what it means to be a student at Dana Street Primary School by consistently showing the school values in myriad ways. From giving tasks a ‘red hot go’, showing excellence in each piece of work completed, being inclusive at every recess and lunch break time, to representing our school proudly in the community. We are so proud of you, congratulations, Yura, Oliver and Stella.
Learning Showcases
Our Year 1/2 students showcased their learning about The Weather with a fabulous open afternoon. The students demonstrated their learning about clouds, rain, cyclones, fire, droughts and floods. The displays were sensational, and all of the students were able to explain their learning. It was wonderful to see so many families who attended and celebrated their students' learning.
In Foundation, we had 25 little chefs producing pizza this week. As a culmination of their work on shapes, the Foundation students made mathematical pizzas, as well as pizzas they could eat! For their Authentic Action, our Foundation students took home Constellation Cards so they could go star hunting over the holidays with their families.
The Year 5/6s celebrated their learning through video presentations. In small groups, students learned about Scientific Space Discoveries and had a movie session to learn from each other. Our Year 6s also gave a ‘Shark Tank’ presentation to the senior grades, presenting inventions that would make our lives better. My favourite was the
Our 3/4 students explored the question ‘What’s beneath our feet?’ They celebrated their learning by sharing Information Reports and their propagated rosemary and bean sprout growth with the 1/2 classes. The students were amazed at how the rosemary sprouted roots and couldn’t believe the different levels of growth the bean sprouts showed under different conditions.
District Athletics
Yesterday we had a large group of senior students who represented our school at the Sturt District Athletics. All of our students represented Dana Street Primary School with pride and passion. Thanks to the staff who attended on the day, Emma, Sam, Stella and Millie.
Congratulations
We would like to congratulate Bec Wong, our Japanese teacher, and her husband Dylan on the arrival of their first baby, Myles Thomas, on 22/2. Everyone is doing well as they get to know one another and discover what life looks like as a family of three.
As we head into the Easter Holiday break, we would like to wish all of our families a happy and safe holiday period. We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school on Monday, 20th April.
Have a wonderful holiday,
Helen
