TERM 4 SPORT

END OF YEAR WRAP UP

What a pleasure it has been to coordinate St Patrick’s sporting opportunities throughout 2023. I feel blessed to have met so many families within this wonderful community and I look forward to meeting more in 2024. I wish every student and their families a joyous yet safe Christmas and New Year break. I will see everyone for an active 2024!

This may be the last sport report for 2023 however our students are still kicking sporting goals right up until the very end….enjoy the last updates!

REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

Sydney AFL Trial

Well done to Jye L, Noah VD and Zachary C who gave it their best at the Sydney AFL Trial last week. I trust this trial has allowed you all to reflect and continue your training for any future trials you may face. We are proud of your efforts.

Sydney Touch Trial

On Wednesday 13th December Lila M, Jye L, Noah VD, Harlem T all gave it their best at the Sydney Touch Trial which was postponed from the severe rainy period we had a couple of weeks ago. There is a long wait until the MacKillop trial which will be held in 2024 on Friday 14th June and we are yet to hear if anyone has progressed. Regardless, what an achievement to make it to the Sydney trial.

Sydney Basketball Trial

On Monday 4th December, 4 boys competed at the Sydney trials for Basketball. This is a very difficult trial as our boys faced many talented athletes out on the court. Trials are a good opportunity to challenge yourself, reflect and grow as an Athlete whether the trial was in your favour or not. We have Ethan P, Lachlan P and Franklin G progressing to the MacKillop Trial next year on Friday 23rd February. It has been quite some time tsince having multiple students from our school progress to the MacKillop Trials for the one team sport.

Conference Swimming Trial

On Monday 12th February we will have our first trial for 2024. 23 of our talented swimmers will represent St Patricks to compete at the Conference 3 swimming trial. These students were selected based on their performance and times at our school's annual swimming carnival in 2023. Good luck to Oscar T, Lachlan T, Luca U, Beatriz P, Dennis L, Zachary C, Sebastian C, Sam E, Xavier D, James S, Hudson S, Saoirse B, Elsie B, Camilla M, Molly P, Pyper R, Georgia SC, Matilda S, Lucy T, Grace T, Abby W, Madison W, Annaleigh KD.

Evie T who should also be mentioned did qualify for this event and I'm sure she will continue to impress her talents with her new school. We will all miss you especially for the junior girls relay team. Good luck and we will be sure to see you at the pool and across the sporting fields.

Here are some more photos from our swimming carnival...

Sydney Tennis Trial

On Wednesday 21st February Petar S will compete for a spot in the MacKillop Tennis Team. Petar will continue his strict tennis training regime over the Summer holidays to prepare for this MacKillop Trial.

Conference Football Trials

On 27th February our first team sport conference trial for 2024 will kick off with our boys and girls Conference 3 Football (soccer trial). Selectors from Sydney FC will do our selections for 2024 which was a similar process to 2023. Good luck to Lenny A, Noah VD, Luca U, Dion T who will trial as a field player and to Christopher P who will trial for goalkeeper.

It is important for me to acknowledge how respectful and well behaved each and every boy was who trialled for this event. I understand that not been selected can be tough however these boys have all achieved in growing up to be good and caring human beings. I witnessed a supportive trial where boys were working as a team and showing the utmost sportsmanship towards one another. Trials are a great opportunity for all athletes to bounce back from disappointment and continue working hard. This resilience and perseverance will be valuable skills not just in sports, but in all aspects of life. I look forward to working closely with our stage 3 students in 2024 for many more sporting opportunities.

Towards the start of next term we will host an in school trial to select our students who will represent our school at the girls conference trial which will be hosted on the same date as the boys trial. Families of the girls involved in this trial will be sent details via email at the start of the school term.

Conference Rugby League and Football Trials

On March 5th 2024 Hunter B, Harlem T, Jye L and Zach C will all attend the combined 3 and 4 rugby league trials.

CROSS COUNTRY SAVE THE DATE

Lock in the date as our School Cross Country Trial is on Monday 11th March. The trial will be held at Waratah Upper and Lower Playing Fields for 2024. Only students who show interest and are capable of running the distance will attend this event. Stay tuned early next year for details on how to register your child.

SYDNEY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SCHOOL HOLIDAY OPPORTUNITIES

****I have noticed many of our students signing up for the Sydney Catholic Schools sport holiday events. The most popular one is the Aquathlon (see details below). If your child is attending this event we would love to share some photos with the community. Please send any photos to amanda.col@syd.catholic.edu.au

Dear Parent/Carer,
