The Issue Highlights

Dear Families,

Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died or suffered while serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War I. The war didn't officially end until 28 June 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles. People in Australia and many other countries observe one minute's silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month because that's when the Armistice came into effect. It's a time to honour our service personnel who died or suffered in service of Australia. On Tuesday, we held a minutes silence at 11am before the recess bell.

We will remember them - lest we forget.

Social Media Delay

From 10th December 2025, many social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australians under 16 create or keep an account. The changes aim to protect under-16s from pressures and risks they can be exposed to while logged into social media accounts.

These come from design features in the platforms that:

  • encourage them to spend too much time on screens – for example, by prompting them with streams of notifications and alerts, and pressuring them to view disappearing content
  • increase the likelihood of exposure to negative, upsetting or manipulative content served up in their feeds by algorithms.

The age restrictions are a delay, not a ban. You won’t have to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to social media accounts, instead you can say ‘not yet’, knowing other under-16s are also being prevented from creating or keeping accounts so your child won’t be missing out.

The delay gives you extra time to talk about online safety and wellbeing with your child, to help them prepare for the risks and pressures of social media when they turn 16. It’s breathing space for them to build digital, social and emotional skills, and to understand the importance of reaching out for help if things go wrong.

This will include the following social media platforms:

The following services will not be age-restricted:

Families can register for the following 30 minute webinars for more information:

From 2026 we will employ a Digital Wellbeing Mentor (Cassandra Steffens) to support our staff, students and families to navigated the challenges of social media and AI.

More information on how to start discussing this with your child please visit: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/social-media-age-restrictions

Art & Design Show

Wednesday 26th November we will celebrate our student's artistic skills in our annual Art & Design Show! Even though it is a smaller event than last year due to limited space, we hope you can join us to celebrate our students amazing talents and abilities.

2026 Parent/Carer Payment Arrangements

School Council have voted to keep our 2026 voluntary financial contributions the same as this year at $70. For further information please see the 2026 Parent/Carer Payment Arrangements page.

If you have not yet paid a voluntary contribution for 2025, you can still contribute to the running of our school through your Xuno Parent Portal. Thank you to all the families who have already paid. We appreciate your ongoing support.

Students will take part in our Step Up days on 25th November and 9th December. Whilst we make changes to class lists during this time, we won't officially notify families of your child's class for 2026 until later in the term. Thank you for your understanding.

Have a lovely weekend!
