English
Reading and Viewing
Our Reading program will continue through the Little Learners Love Literacy program. Students will further develop their phonics knowledge by learning new sounds and spelling patterns while continuing to practise blending and segmenting words. This term, students will also begin exploring morphology by learning how prefixes, suffixes and base words can help them understand and decode unfamiliar vocabulary. These skills will be applied through decodable texts while students continue building fluency and comprehension through whole-class, small-group and independent reading.
Writing
Students will continue to develop their writing skills through the Little Learners Love Literacy program, with a focus on spelling patterns, sentence structure and correct letter formation. Through our OCHRE resources, students will explore both imaginative and informative writing genres. For imaginative writing, students will study The Stone Lion and The Snail and the Whale. For informative writing, students will explore Walking in Gagadju Country and The Gentle Genius of Trees. Students will continue developing their ability to organise ideas, write for different purposes and audiences, and apply taught language features to enhance their writing.
Speaking and Listening
Students will continue to participate in a variety of speaking and listening activities across all learning areas. These experiences will support the development of active listening skills, effective communication, questioning techniques and confidence when sharing ideas with others. Our Dojo Take Home Toy and Mystery Box will continue this term. The roster remains displayed on the classroom window.
Parent Helpers
Thank you to our parent helpers for your ongoing support in the classroom! Literacy group activities will continue throughout Term 3 with an updated roster. If you are unable to attend on your allocated day and would like to organise a replacement, you are welcome to do so, however, please do not feel any pressure to find someone else if you are unavailable - I completely understand that schedules can change and we will adjust the classroom activities accordingly.
Mathematics
This term, students will continue building their mathematical understanding across several areas. They will develop their multiplication and division knowledge through practical problem-solving activities and begin recalling some multiplication facts. Students will also continue strengthening their addition and subtraction skills through real-world mathematical situations, including money-related problems. In Geometry, students will compare, sort and classify shapes and describe their features using appropriate mathematical language.
Religion
This term, students will explore the areas of Scripture and Jesus and Morality and Justice. Through Scripture and Jesus, students will investigate how people develop personal connections with God. They will explore how God's people are portrayed and reflect on how the Word of God continues to guide and strengthen faith communities today. In Morality and Justice, students will examine Scripture stories, explore the concept of stewardship and consider how they can contribute positively to their local communities. Students will reflect on the teachings and example of Jesus and investigate how their actions can impact others and help build strong, caring communities.
Science
This term, students will investigate how materials can change shape. They will explore how everyday materials respond when bent, twisted or stretched. Through hands-on investigations, students will identify which materials return to their original shape and which undergo permanent change. They will also sort and classify materials according to their observable properties. Towards the end of the term, students will begin their learning about the Solar System, which will continue into Term 4. They will be introduced to key features of our Solar System.
Humanities
This term, students will explore Connections to Country and deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Students will investigate the connections First Nations Australians have to Country and Place and examine how these connections are represented in different contexts. Later in the term, students will explore the story of Ötzi the Iceman. They will learn about the discovery of Ötzi and investigate how anthropologists and scientists use evidence from remains and artefacts to make inferences about life in the past.
Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing focus this term is Positive Coping. Students will explore a range of emotions and reflect on how they respond to different situations. They will learn and practise strategies for managing feelings while also considering how their actions and responses can impact others. Through discussions and activities, students will develop skills to express emotions appropriately and build positive coping strategies that support their wellbeing and relationships.
