Staff vs Student Feud
Congratulations to our College Captains, who took home the Term 3 Staff vs Student Feud trophy in today's final round. They were the highest-scoring team throughout the term, with an impressive score of 457. It was a term of fun, friendly competition and plenty of laughs between many different staff and our Year 12 students every Friday lunch. A huge thank you to Mr. Kelly for organising and running the Feud and to our Year 12 student, Ajitesh for being our MC throughout the term. Bragging rights belong to the students... at least until next time!
Year 12 Celebration Week
What a memorable week it has been for our Year 12 students! This week, our Year 12 cohort celebrated the end of Term 3 with a fantastic Celebration Week, filled with fun, laughter and plenty of memorable moments. We had 'Anything But a Bag Day', '1000 Days of School', with our Year 12s embracing life as the senior citizens of Hazel Glen College, a 'Future Careers Day' and Footy Day. Today also marks the final day for some of our Year 12 students, including our VCE VM Students. It's been wonderful to see our HGC students enjoying these special traditions and celebrating everything they have achieved throughout their time at the College.
VET Hospitality & Cookery Pop Up Cafes
Our VET Hospitality students this term ran a few cafes for our staff as part of their assessment and real-world skill building. Students prepared menus, made the meals for takeaways and ran the different 'cafes' throughout the term. The latest evening they ran was the Pop-Up Bakery with an array of delicious treats on sale. Well done to the VET Hospitality & Cookery students on a successful term!

Year 12 Vocational Major (VCE VM) Legacy Project Showcase
Last night, our Year 12 Vocational Major (VCE VM) students proudly presented their Legacy Project Showcase in our PAC. After months of hard work, dedication and commitment, students had the opportunity to share their memories, experiences and personal journeys from their early years in Prep through to their final year of schooling.
Surrounded by family, friends and staff, students showcased a range of creative and meaningful projects that reflected their growth, achievements and aspirations for the future. With food, drinks, music and an impressive display of projects, the evening was a wonderful celebration of our students’ efforts. A special thank you to the staff involved in the Year 12 VM Legacy Project Team for their support, guidance and encouragement throughout the year, and to all our families who showed up to support our students.
R U OK? Day
We celebrated R U OK Day last week. R U OK? Day is a national day in Australia that focuses on the importance of starting conversations, building the motivation, confidence and skills to have a meaningful conversation with someone who may be struggling and encourages people to stay connected.
We hope our students can check-in with their friends, family and peers in a genuine way and recognise the importance of doing this regularly. In our Secondary Years, there was Just Dance at recess and lots of fun activities during lunch, including live music from our student bands, cheese toasties, lawn games, badge making, colouring in and more! Thank you to all our staff involved with organising and running the day.
Blue Edge Program
This term, a group of our students participated in the Blue EDGE Program, an engaging early intervention initiative that combines physical activity with valuable life skills. Designed to build resilience, encourage healthy and safe decision making, and strengthen connections within the community, Blue EDGE provides students with opportunities to challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
Delivered in partnership with police and emergency services, the program allows students to work alongside positive role models while developing confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. Through a range of activities and experiences, students build trust, respect and meaningful relationships that extend beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of the students who participated this term and the positive growth they demonstrated throughout the program. Their commitment, courage and willingness to embrace new challenges made the experience a rewarding one for all involved.
VCE VM Student Fundraiser for the Doreen CFA
Four of our HGC students from the College visited the Doreen CFA to present the $690 that they raised during their VCE VM Community Project.
The students were provided with a tour of the station and the fire trucks, and firefighters from the brigade discussed the vital firefighting equipment that will be purchased from their fundraising.
Members of Doreen CFA let us know that they were blown away by the efforts of the students and are proud of the amazing young people we have in our Community.
Year 11 Chemistry
Our Year 11 Chemistry students recently completed their first titration experiment, applying their practical skills to determine the concentration of hydrochloric acid in a commercial brick cleaner. Using careful technique and accurate measurements, students compared their calculated concentrations with the manufacturer’s stated value and found their results were remarkably close to the claim. A fantastic demonstration of scientific inquiry, precision, and real-world application of chemistry concepts. Well done Year 11!
Year 12 Chemistry
Our Year 12 Chemistry students recently investigated the effect of temperature on enzyme activity using potato and liver samples. Through a series of practical experiments, students observed how changes in temperature influenced the rate of enzyme-catalysed reactions and compared these results with those of an inorganic catalyst. The investigation provided students with a valuable opportunity to apply their understanding of enzymes and reaction rates in a hands-on setting.
Writing Competition Award Recipients
Our Year 10 Students completed pieces for our writing competition, as part of the Crafting Text unit, late in Term 2. Students had the choice whether to opt in or out of the competition. Teachers formed a panel of judges who read and voted, selecting the successful pieces to be part of a Collage anthology of texts. The anthology will be displayed in the main College Administration Building for members of the community to enjoy.

VET Sport, Aquatics & Recreation CPR Training
Our second-year VET Sport, Aquatics & Recreation students recently completed their CPR course, developing practical skills that could make a real difference in an emergency.
Through hands-on training, students practised their CPR techniques and built confidence in their ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. Well done to all students on this important achievement!
Australian Mathematics Competition Award Recipients
Each year, our College participates in the Australian Mathematics Competition.

A credit is awarded to a student who is in the top 55% of their year and region (60% for Senior division).

SWPBS - House Points Update
Across Term 3, our Hazel Glen College staff have caught Secondary Years students actively demonstrating one of the College Values almost 5800 times! Seeing a student who is making fabulous choices and talking with them about the positive impact that they are having on the College community is always a highlight of our day.
This term, we would like to send our congratulations to all of our students in Goodes House who have won the Term 3 Competition by demonstrating respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience both within and outside of our classrooms. Keep up the great work!
