Heads of Secondary Years' Report 

Dear Hazel Glen College Community,

What a fantastic and action packed term it has been.

With celebrating College Production, Book Week, Science Week, RUOK Day, the VCE VM Legacy Showcase, and cohort Wellbeing days, we have enjoyed many special events that have brought a strong sense of pride and connection amongst our staff and students.

I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge all of our students and staff for their planning and coordination of all of the incredible special events and extra-curricular programs we have had running this term. R U OK? Day was a particular highlight, watching many students perform, come together and contribute to discussions around mental health, and how to actively be there for each other. 

Term 4 has lots in store, with the end of Semester examinations happening later in the term for our Year 9, 10 and 11 students. These examinations provide the opportunity for our Senior Years students to demonstrate their learning, practice good study habits and ultimately familiarise themselves with the expected behaviours and routines of sitting exams.

All students next term, in Years 7-10 will also complete PAT (Progressive Achievement Testing) for Literacy and Numeracy. These tests occur in Week 4 next term. They help teachers understand student achievement, growth and areas for further support. They also provide our staff with great, detailed information about student academic achievement, in preparation for the end of year handover to the following year's teacher.

Over the study break, our Year 12 VCE students completing the VCAA exams are expected to attend the College to complete practice examinations, in preparation for their VCAA exams. Further information can be found on Compass. I'd like to remind our students completing the VCAA exams next term to rise to the occasion and put their best foot forward, and to strive for their personal best & excellence. All students completing Year 12 English examinations and Year 12 Literature examinations were able to complete a trial examination at the College last week, during the Parent-Teacher interview day. Every student has received personalised feedback from qualified VCAA assessors on staff at HGC. We encourage you to discuss this at home and ask your child about what they are doing to balance their wellbeing, whilst practising and preparing good study routines and habits for their final weeks of schooling.

Next term, on October 30th, is World Teachers' Day. I would love to encourage members of our community, including both parents and students, to reach out to a teacher at our College with an email or letter of thanks or appreciation on this day. It would mean the 'world' (pardon the pun) to our amazing teaching staff.

We wish all of our community the very best for the upcoming holiday break and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, October 5th, for Term 4.
