Dear Westbreen PS Families,

Bunnings BBQ

A special thank you to everyone who helped out at the Bunnings BBQ on the weekend. We had perfect weather which made the day extremely successful raising over $4800 - (the highest BBQ fundraiser in Westbreen history I have been informed!) Special thanks goes to parents Omar and Kasey, as well as Jill in the office for their enormous efforts in organising and running the event. I would also like to thank TheirCare, C + M Residential and families for their generous donations.

Book Week

Well our Book Week certainly ended in style with a phenomenal Book Parade on Friday. It was great to see the incredible costumes student wore to celebrate books and reading. There were Minions, coloured crayons, fairies and royalty, as well as a range of characters from students favourite books and graphic novels. Thanks to all the parents/carers who came along to cheer on the students and take part in all of the fun.

Creator Club

Creator Club had a lego challenge this week, building houses. Congratulations to Freya in 4L, Fatima in 4L and Beatrix in 4C for their great team effort! It is great to see so many students (sometimes up to 40 students attending our clubs each day). Our student led clubs have been so popular it has inspired lots of other students to want to run clubs as well! Student led clubs will run for 1 term each. Submissions are being received now from students for our clubs for term 4! Ask

Puzzle Club - donations please!

We received some feedback that students would like some more puzzles for puzzle club. We love student feedback and try to respond to student voice whenever possible. Here is the collection of new games and puzzles purchased for puzzle club. If you have any complete puzzles at home, we would gladly accept your donations. As puzzle club runs during lunch time, we only have time to complete up to 200 piece puzzles.

Colour Run

We have already raised over $9000 towards the Colour Run, which means....time to slime! First up we had Spencer (ES) and Mr O'Callaghan (1H teacher) who were terrific sports - and the students loved it!

Our next slime target is $10000 where Ms Kerry and Mr David will be slimed! Keep up the great effort everyone!

Fathers and Special Persons Day Stall

Thanks to everyone who supported the Fathers Day and Special Persons Day stall today. There were some fantastic gifts on offer. We really appreciate those who donated gifts as well as the parents who volunteered their time to organise and run the event. Special thanks to Atika from P&F for all your work! Wishing all of our dads, grandfathers, uncles and special people in our students' lives a lovely day on Sunday!

2026 Parent / Carer Opinion Survey:

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphone. An email was sent on Monday the 17th of August with the link and pin for you to complete the survey.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

Last year the survey results showed that communication was an area we could improve in and that families wanted more information about their child’s learning. In response, this year we have introduced progress reports completed in Term 1 and 3. We have also reviewed our learning management system and upgraded our school website. Your feedback really does make a difference! Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Reminder: Safe to School

A number of concerns have been raised about the traffic around our school including West Street and Peachy Court. These include:

speeding in the school zone
parking across residents driveways
doing u-turns and blocking traffic flow
becoming impatient, beeping and making other motorists feel unsafe during pick up time

U-turns are prohibited in many school zones, particularly near crossings and intersections. Even where not explicitly banned, performing U-turns near schools can be risky due to reduced visibility and unpredictable pedestrian movement. Drivers should plan their routes to avoid the need for complex turning manoeuvres near school entrances.
