Week 9-Prep to Yr 4 Intensive Swimming Program
Congratulations to all of the Prep to Year 4 students who showed great commitment and effort to their swimming last week, especially on the cooler Monday and Tuesday weather. Fortunately, we had ample wetsuits to borrow if needed to ensure the students could be kept warm and to maintain their focus for learning and to work on their water safety and swimming competencies without distraction. We were very grateful for the volunteer swim teachers, Bill Green (my dad), Leonie Gagliardie, Nat De Morton and Leigh Todd (my husband), who have maintained their Austswim qualification to continue the high quality of swim teaching offered to our St Joseph's students. Special thanks also to staff members, Nicole Byrne, Kim Neate and Gypsy Smart, for being prepared to assist and teach from the water with me.
All students who participated in the testing on the last day will have today received an SJS Swimming Certificate outlining the level they either achieved OR are developing in.
Enjoy viewing some of the happy snaps from our week of swimming at our shared Sorrento Pool!

A huge thank you to all parent and older sibling helpers who assisted with accompanying groups, cooking and serving sausages, transporting coffees, setting up and packing up equipment and transporting equipment between venues. Thanks also to Monica, Zoe Denton and Aisling McGrath for loaning their Stand Up Paddleboards to allow enough equipment for all students to take part each session and to Julian Byrne (Jane Byrne's husband) and Jacqui Hayes for giving up their time to take an activity each across both days.
Thanks to Shane Watson for the loan of the two large kayaks and to Sorrento Primary for the loan of the snorkelling gear. Thank you to Rob Miller and Sorrento Sea Scouts for the kayaks and standup paddleboards and extra lifejackets. Thank you to Henry Kiss from Portsea Lifesaving Club and lifeguards, Isabella, Ben, Georgia, Charlotte and Sascha for ensuring safety was always at the forefront of every activity.
We are indebted to Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club's David White (Sailing Academy) and Anthony White (General Manager) who provided all facilities for us to hold our beach and boat days, as well as provided free coffees for all helpers, free sausage sizzle lunch for all students and helpers, sailing instructors (Lachie, Grace, Charlie and Rob) and numerous sailboats for our students to learn in and the powerboat with Chris as the driver who drove the groups to see seals and dolphins.
