Angela's Message (Acting Principal)

This is the last week of Winter, 2025! The mornings have been cold but it can heat up by the end of the day. Easily removable layers are great to pop on to our little ones, helping support their independence in taking off their LABELLED jacket if they are warming up.

Book week

The St. Michael's community was completely abuzz last week. Speaking of 'buzz', we had a spelling bee to kick off the week. A highlight, however, seemed to be the Book Parade. For me, it was the dedication shown by our educators to ensure a positive experience was had by all as they dressed up and whipped around to offer costumes to  students that may have forgotten or got a little nervous to dress up.

Father's Day

We invite fathers and father figures on Thursday the 4th of September 8.15am - 9am to have some breakfast and spend time at school with their child/children.

Story Dogs

Meet Jarrah. Jarrah and her handler Sarah will be visiting some very lucky year 1 and 2 students each Friday. Jarrah loves listening to stories so she will sit with these children as they read aloud. Story Dogs handlers are volunteers trained to help emergent readers.  The handler will not judge the child and will help in a non-threatening way. They are fully insured and the handlers have Working with Children Checks as per each State's regulations.

To find out more about Story Dogs, take a look at their website https://www.storydogs.org.au/victorian-schools

Looking ahead - 2026 intentions

Thank you to families that have shared their 2026 intentions. At this stage there are no surprises at any exits being made as families had informed us of the changes.  What did surprise me was the lovely comments some families had shared. This was not expected. I shared with our staff (removing identifiable information).

If you have not shared your intentions and know that you will be leaving in 2026, please inform the office at your nearest convenience or email me at angela.flint@smnthmelbourne.catholic.edu.au

Building Update

Some more recent images of our building site. The steel frames seem to be everywhere, ready to be put in place. Each piece has been crafted to fit in a specific spot. It's like a mega jigsaw puzzle.

The staff lounge bathroom slab has been poured. The staff are eagerly awaiting new bathroom facilities. It has been a LONG wait too.

School Closure Day

Our school closure day for Term 3 will be on Tuesday September 2nd. On this day, our staff will engage in Professional Learning focusing on the teaching of Mathematics. Please place this date in your calendar. All day care will be available with Their Care.

Have a wonderful week of LEARNING and LAUGHTER
