Sheep

Preparations for the Perth Royal Show is now complete, and our sheep are heading to the show today. The stalls have been set up, and the competition fleeces are ready for display.

Students have been busy preparing for the judging program, which will take place over the weekend. Merino judging is scheduled for Saturday, 26 September, from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm, with further judging continuing on Sunday, 27 September, from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm.

The Supreme Champion judging will be held from approximately 4.00 pm to 4.30 pm on Sunday 27 September, followed by the Merino and Wool Presentation from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

We wish all participating students the very best of luck and look forward to seeing the results of their hard work and dedication on display throughout the Show.

Pigs

The College’s pigs will compete in the Pigs in Schools Competition on Sunday, 27 September, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm at the Farmyard Nursery.

Students will present their pigs on the hoof, showcasing the practical skills and animal husbandry knowledge they have developed throughout the preparation program. This competition gives students an opportunity to demonstrate the hard work that goes into preparing and presenting livestock to industry standards.

As part of the Pigs in Schools Competition, students must demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills across a range of areas. This includes presenting and displaying their pigs, communicating effectively with judges and members of the public, and preparing and delivering a PowerPoint presentation.

Students must also explain the management and conditioning program undertaken with their pigs, including feeding regimes, growth rates, live-weight monitoring, and the relationship between live weight and anticipated dressed weight. The competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase the skills and knowledge they have developed through their involvement in the program. This will be presented as a chart they have created.
