Year 5 Canberra Overnight Excursion

Our Year 5 students recently returned from an unforgettable camp in Canberra, packed with hands-on learning and memorable experiences. They sparked their curiosity at Questacon, paid their respects during a moving visit to the Australian War Memorial, and took in inspiring artistic masterpieces at the National Gallery of Australia. The trip also offered fascinating insights into Earth sciences at Geoscience Australia, insights into how laws are made inside Parliament House, and a taste of elite athletic training at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). It was a wonderful adventure that brought their classroom learning to life!

he Australian government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their civics and citizenship education.  To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30 per student under the parliament and civics education rebate programme towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Bullying No Way: National week of action 

This week is National Bullying No Way Week.

The theme for this year's campaign is ‘Small Acts. Big Impact'.  Our students Representative Council will visit classrooms showing petinent information and strategies.  These students will be supported by the classroom teachers during the lesson.

SJB will recognise Bullying No Way: on Friday 21 August 2026 through participation in a variety of learning activities and webinars.

Students are invited to wear a ‘pop of purple’ on Friday 21 August. This could involve wearing a purple accessory such as a purple ribbon, badge, hat, socks or wrist bands etc.

Book Week Parade - Monday 24 August

We are looking forward to our epic Book Week Parade on Monday 24 August beginning at 9.15am. This is very well supported by our families and we appreciate all of the effort that goes into preparing a costume. 

Due to the large number of visitors for this event, we will be enacting our Traffic Management Plan for Special Events: 

Car Parking:

• Parish Car Park

• Basketball Court

• Surrounding Streets

   

Please do not parkin the Anglican Church as this blocks access for residents who live behind the Church. Please also remember to park vehicles correctly and considerately on our surrounding streets, particularly avoid blocking driveways.

Gate Access:

• Park Road (near Hall)

• Hutton Avenue

• Rowan Street 

   

Please note that due to cars parking on the Basketball Court, walking access into the school will be through the Park Road gate closest to the Hall.

Father's Day Breakfast - Save the Date!

We will be celebrating Father's Day on Thursday 3 September from 8am. This will involve a Sausage Sizzle for all students, fathers, grandfathers and father figures, followed by a prayer and celebration and an invitation to visit classrooms.  

Lost Property - Label and Re-Label Everything

The school office has been receiving a lot of jumpers, jackets and hats with no names and names of students that are no longer at St Joseph's.

Please ensure that your child's name is on ALL clothing so these can be returned to their rightful owners.  Names that are written can also rub off overtime, so please 're-label' frequently. Any items that are not identified will be sent to the second-hand clothing pool.

We have also had a number of enquiries regarding missing items that have been labelled. Please check your child's clothing to ensure you have the correct items.

2026 Book Club Issue 5 - CLOSES TODAY!

Issue 5 will closes TODAY, 10 August 2026.

Books will be delivered in the week beginning 17 August 2026.

 PB4L Expectations and Reminders

Setting clear expectations for behaviour and uniform is essential to ensure all students are Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. To reinforce these standards, we are regularly re-teaching our school's expectations within individual classes and across the whole school, making sure every student is well-informed. We appreciate parents' support in promoting these high expectations with their children.

Catholic Schools Parents NSW 2026 Parent and Carer Conference

You're invited to the Council of Catholic School Parents NSW (CCSP) 2026 Parent Conference, Supporting Families: Working Together in a Modern World, on Saturday 22 August 2026 in Sydney.

Join parents and carers from Catholic schools across NSW for a day of learning, connection and support. Expert presenters will share practical advice on contemporary parenting topics, including consent and respectful relationships, cybersafety, resilience, anxiety, screen use and brain development, and supporting children's learning at home and at school.

Road Safety Updates - Morning & Afternoon Drop Off

Morning & Afternoon Drop Off on Rowan Street

A huge thank you to parents who follow road rules to ensure the safety of all each morning. Many concerns have been raised regarding some parents' non-compliance with road rules on Rowan Street and at the intersection of Hutton Avenue. Please note the following: 

• We encourage no U-Turns at the bottom of Rowan Street

• We encourage drivers to not pull into driveways in Rowan Street to turn around

• Students are to be dropped within the Drop Off Zone on Rowan Street

• Ensure cars are safely parked in surrounding streets when students are dropped off.

Cash purchases for snacks and drinks can be made at recess and lunchtime. Snacks and drinks can also be ordered via the new platform FlexiSchools.

Lunch orders

Orders for lunch can only be made through Flexischools.  Please note that orders close at 9.15am daily.  Orders cannot be placed after this time. 

Note:  Canteen is CLOSED MONDAYS
