Important Reminder: 2027 Foundation Enrolments Close This Friday

A reminder to all families that applications for Foundation (Prep) enrolment in 2027 close this Friday, 31 July.

If you have a child at home who will be starting school next year, please ensure that you have submitted your online enrolment application through the VicStudents system before the closing date. Submitting your application on time helps us plan classes, staffing and transition opportunities to ensure every child enjoys a smooth and successful start to school.

We would also love your help in spreading the word about St Kilda Park Primary School. Many of our new families first hear about our school through the recommendations of current parents, and there is no greater endorsement than members of our own community sharing their positive experiences.

If you have friends, neighbours or family members with children starting school in 2027, we encourage you to let them know about SKiPPS and invite them to explore everything our wonderful school has to offer. We are incredibly proud of our welcoming community, outstanding teaching and learning, and the caring environment we provide for every child as they begin their educational journey.

Thank You for Your Support

I would like to sincerely thank our families for the understanding, flexibility and goodwill you showed during last Thursday's statewide stop work action. We know that keeping children at home created challenges for many families, and we are incredibly grateful for the support our community showed throughout the day.

Industrial action is never something our staff undertake lightly. It reflects their strong belief in the value of public education and their commitment to ensuring that government schools receive the funding, staffing, working conditions and fair remuneration needed to continue providing an outstanding education for every child. 

Schools like St Kilda Park Primary School achieve incredible outcomes, but the reality is that much of what we are able to offer relies on the extraordinary dedication of our staff, who regularly contribute many hours of unpaid work, as well as the generosity of our families through parent payments, fundraising and the countless hours of volunteering that strengthen our school community. We want a future where government schools are fully resourced to provide these opportunities without relying so heavily on goodwill alone.

At this stage, no decisions have been made regarding any future industrial action The AEU Council are meeting this Friday and will make decisions around the next steps in this campaign.  

You may have seen media reports suggesting there will be another statewide strike on Tuesday 4 August. 

This information is incorrect, and no industrial action will take place on that day. Should any future action be announced, we will communicate directly with families as early as possible to ensure everyone has clear and accurate information.

Staffing Update

As many families will know, Louisa Di Pietro has taken on significant additional responsibilities this year in her roles as our Student Inclusion Coordinator and Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader. As these important responsibilities have continued to grow, Louisa has made the decision to step back from teaching Italian to our Foundation and Year 1 classes on Fridays.

While we know Louisa will miss working with our youngest learners in this role, we are delighted to welcome back a very familiar face to SKiPPS. Rosie Greagg, who retired from the school after more than 30 years of dedicated service across a wide range of teaching and leadership roles, has enthusiastically accepted the opportunity to teach Italian to our Foundation and Year 1 students each week.

Italian has always been one of Rosie's passions, and we know our youngest students will benefit enormously from her warmth, experience and love of language. We are thrilled to have Rosie back at SKiPPS, even if it is for one day a week, and know our Foundation and Year 1 students will give her a very warm welcome.

A Reminder About Safe Pick Up and Drop Off

Our morning and afternoon pick up times can be busy, particularly around the access road and staff car park. We ask all families to please be patient and help us keep this area safe for everyone.

Please remember that vehicles should only ever be parked in marked parking bays.

Stopping and leaving your vehicle in the roadway or other non-designated areas creates visibility issues and can make it difficult for other vehicles and pedestrians to move safely through the area. 

We also ask that the accessible parking spaces are only used by vehicles displaying a valid disability parking permit.

There is no need to rush at the end of the day. Teachers remain with students until 3:45 pm and any child who has not been collected by then is safely escorted to the office, where families can collect them. Taking an extra minute to park safely and drive carefully helps ensure our school remains a safe place for all members of our community.

Foundation to Year 4 Gymnastics Program Begins Next Week

We are excited to be welcoming our annual gymnastics program back to St Kilda Park Primary School next week for all students in Foundation to Year 4.

Over the next six weeks, specialist gymnastics coaches will visit the school each week, bringing a range of gymnastics equipment for students to use during their lessons. The program is designed to develop students' gross motor skills, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and confidence in a fun, engaging and supportive environment.

Each Foundation to Year 4 class will participate in one gymnastics session each week. A timetable of class session times is included below to assist families.

We know our students always look forward to this fantastic program, and we thank our visiting coaches for providing another wonderful opportunity for our children to learn new skills and challenge themselves in a safe and enjoyable setting.

Chicken helpers needed!

As always, we are asking our wonderful community to support us this term by signing up to help look after our four friendly and happy chickens.

You will be required to check in on the chickens, collect the eggs, top up food and water, remove manure and replace hay. This should take 15 minutes maximum. However, you are welcome to hang out and relax with the chickens if you would like. They do enjoy spending time out of the coop so please let them them roam and lock them back up before you leave.

Please get in touch with Allison to complete a training session before or after school to show you where the equipment is kept and how to access the coop. 

There are also instructions inside the chicken house. These have been updated so please read carefully for any changes. 

Each day you volunteer you get to keep the eggs you collect. There should be 4 per day. They tend to lay in the afternoon. 

Community Information: Proposed Port Phillip Bay Gas Import Terminal

Several members of our school community have recently contacted us regarding a proposed gas import terminal project for Port Phillip Bay and asked that we share information with interested families.

The proposal, led by Vopak, is currently the subject of an environmental assessment process. As part of this process, community members can access information about the project, learn about the environmental assessment, and make their own informed decisions about whether they wish to provide feedback.

Families interested in finding out more can visit the Victorian Government's Environment Effects Statement process and the project information available through Environment Victoria, which outlines a range of perspectives on the proposal.
