School Saving Bonus (SSB) Update

The Victorian Government is delivering the School Saving Bonus (SSB) – a one-off support of $400 for eligible government school students from Prep to Year 12 in 2025.

The SSB can be used for uniforms until Monday 30 June 2025. See below for a uniform update. 

Any funds remaining after 30 June 2025, including online voucher amounts that have not been fully redeemed, will become a credit to use on school activities. However, the credit will not be available on your family account at our school until late July. 

To use any remaining SSB funds to cover the cost of school activities in July, please head to the SSB online system and allocate any balance of SSB funds to 'school activities' before 30 June 2025, if you have not already done so.

The Department of Education’s SSB contact centre will remain available until 30 June 2025. The contact centre can be reached by: 

· completing the School Saving Bonus enquiry form

· calling 1800 338 663, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays.

Interschool Snowsports 2025 - expressions of interest

Newtown Primary School will be represented at the 2025 Victorian Interschools Snow Sports Championships at Mount Buller again this year. The event will be held the week of 18-24 August, but most of the primary school division competitions take place in the first 3 days (18-20 August). It is a fun week with an emphasis on taking part and having a go - kids don't need to be able to ski/snowboard at a high level (but do need to be able to get themselves down the course and back up the lift independently).

Trivia Night - Organisation, Call out for volunteers

A night like the Trivia Night cannot go ahead without the support of a committed team. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the planning and organisation of the 2025 Trivia Night. Traditionally, this event is the biggest fundraiser for our school.

Prep Enrolments - Siblings

If you have a sibling that will be enrolling into Prep next year, please contact the office to arrange to receive an enrolment pack. 

School Uniform 'Refresh' - Update

We have reached out to Beleza, our uniform supplier to ascertain some estimations on the availability of our refreshed uniform items. 

The items that will be expected in-store first will be; 

- Soft shell Jacket (new item)

- Short and Long sleeve polo tops

These items will be arriving from the manufacturer in June and will be available in-store a few weeks after that. 

The next items that will be made available will be the; 

- Super fleece rugby top (new item)

- Grade 6 'leader' polo and Grade 6 'leader' hoodie 

These are expected between Aug-Sep.  

Use of SSB before the June 30 cut off date:

There will be an order process put into place prior to the end of June for families wishing to place orders for the new uniform items, whilst utilising their School Saving Bonus. Please check in store to be assisted to complete this process. 

Sports tops update

We are excited to be working with students this term in the design process of new, vibrant house sports tops. This year, students are encouraged to continue to wear their coloured polos for sports. We are aware that Beleza may run out of the coloured polos, however stores such as Target and K-Mart have these polos readily available.

Lost Property

A reminder to all families, as we move into the cooler weather - our lost property grows ...exponentially! Please ensure all clothing worn to school (especially beanies, jumpers and jackets) are clearly named.

Trivia Night Fundraiser!

A BIG thank you to the Businesses and individuals who have already donated or committed a donation towards our major Fundraiser, our annual Trivia Night. 

Some businesses have even extended special offers to our school community. These will be shared through the newsletter and on the night of the Trivia Night. 

A BIG shout out to Michelle Flowers, who has tirelessly in contacting businesses on behalf of the school and spent hours collecting items for the past few weeks to gather these amazing donations for our event! Thank you Michelle!
