Classroom News

Foundation

Dear Families,

This week in Foundation, we began our new Inquiry unit, My Story, Our Story. The children created beautiful artworks celebrating their family’s backgrounds and sharing where their families are from. We enjoyed learning about one another’s backgrounds and celebrating the wonderful diversity within our classroom! This term, we will spend lots of time exploring what makes each of us unique and learning how differences are celebrated and welcomed in our school community. Have a great weekend everyone.

Year 1

Hi all,

I hope you have had a great week!

I thought I would share a little of what the children have been learning in Maths this week. Our unit of learning has focused on Location, and the children have been busy developing their skills in giving and following directions.

We started by using Bee-Bots to practise programming and giving instructions. The children then took their learning outside, where they followed directions to navigate an obstacle course on the playground. Finally, they put their thinking into action by writing their own set of instructions for someone else to follow!

I was not at all surprised by how amazingly they did. These Year 1s are certainly showing that they are ready for Year 2! Yeeehaaa! 🎉

Have a wonderful weekend!

Terri

Year 2

Hello Families,

The class had a fun filled week with our daily story writing and finishing off our Term.4 'Prayers and Promises' We are learning about fractions especially a lot to do with quarters and halves. We had the most wonderful start to our 'Magic Monday' program with everyone enjoying their chosen activities, a lot of the class are in games, games, games with Marie. Other activities our class chose are Lego and Drama. In the coming weeks for Inquiry, we will learn about family and community timelines with a focus on  'then and now'. We will have an excursion to enrich this experience. We end each day together thinking “Today is gone.Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”

Have a lovely weekend ahead, Ms.Liz

Year 3/4

Hi families,

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 3/4! A huge well done to all of our students, who continue to demonstrate just how adaptable and resilient they are as they settle into our combined class. We are so proud of the positive attitudes and flexibility they have shown throughout this transition.

In Maths, we have wrapped up our unit on Mass and Capacity with a hands on lesson outdoors, putting our measuring skills to the test! It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and problem solving skills on display as the students worked together to order jars of different sizes and different capacities. We have now begun our new Data Investigation unit, and the Year ¾’s have already made a fantastic start, collecting and representing data using bar graphs.

Reminder: As part of our Inquiry unit this term 'What is the history of Australia?', we will be visiting the Melbourne Museum on Tuesday, 20 October. We are looking forward to a wonderful day of learning!

Year 5/6 J

Hi Families,

It has been a wonderful start to term 4 in 5/6J, with plenty of learning and engagement in our topics of focus in the last two weeks.

In Maths, we have been looking at numerical and categorical data. As apart of the process of data investigations, students had the opportunity to create their own question to survey the class, and represent their findings using a tally, frequency table and then display these results using a column graph. They then made comments on the data by explaining any trends they noticed. This activity was definitely a hit!

Year 5/6 M

We are incredibly proud of Kaone, who brilliantly represented Sacred Heart at the recent NMR Primary Track and Field Championships in the 200m Sprint. Kaone displayed exceptional athleticism, determination and sportsmanship. It was a highly competitive field and Kaone executed a powerful race from the blocks to the finish line. Congratulations on an outstanding performance!

Arvin and Raffale: In Numeracy, the new topic that we are looking at is Data Investigation. It is really a lot of fun to do! We had to make up a question which we then had to ask our friends about. We then gave them three options to the question. We had to use a tally to record the answers and then make up and put them onto a table. It was an amazing activity to do!

Aisha and Chloe’: In R.E. we have started to learn more about Jesus through the Gospel  stories in the Bible. We talked and wrote words and sentences that describe Jesus. Then we had to choose one quality that Jesus had and that we thought we had in us.

Viraj and Layla: Our class wrote a book about a missing corn. It was based on a book called ‘Dear Broccoli’ that we had read and was a short-listed book this year. After reading ‘Dear Broccoli’, we thought it would be great to write a sequel! Everyone worked together and had fun writing this new book. We made it and have dedicated it to this year’s Foundation students. We hope to read it to them soon.

Kaone and Katalina: In the Library this week, we had a wonderful session with Prem, reading us a nice book called, “Some days you’ll have days like these!!” It was written by Josh Pyke. It was about a blue character who at first has a good day, but then turns around as it becomes gloomy and depressing. The book was great!
