Athlete Development Program - Rugby Academy:

The Athlete Development Program (Rugby Union), facilitated by the Shepparton Rugby Union Club (SRUC), recently launched its first session second week of Term 2, providing students with an exciting opportunity to be trained by Rugby Victoria, alongside a special guest appearance from the Wallabies.

Following a successful 2025, SRUC has once again partnered to deliver this program for more than 25 Pasifika students from Years 7–12 throughout Terms 2 and 3. The program not only focuses on developing rugby skills and improving fitness, but also places strong emphasis on wellbeing, nutrition, and the importance of upholding positive values both on and off the field, within school, the community, and everyday life.

A key strength of the Athlete Development Program is the opportunity it creates for coaches and mentors to engage students in meaningful conversations about education and future pathways. It reinforces the message that success is not limited to sport but extends into all aspects of life.

The academy aims to:

• Engage young people in Rugby Union
• Upskill existing players 
• Improve individual fitness levels
• Provide mentoring and guidance around future pathways
• Promote positive values through sport
