Welcome!

To the St Pius X College Old Boys Association e-newsletter.

Dear St Pius X College Old Boy

Welcome to our latest edition of the Newsletter for former students and their families. After the long interruption to our plans caused by COVID we are back in production with some new faces, including a new College Principal, Mr Michael Ronchetti, and a new Old Boys Association President, Mr Barry Wong.

The newsletter provides an update on the St Pius X College Old Boys Association (SPXOBA) activities including key events and reunions, significant happenings at the College and updates on where your fellow Old Boys are now, plus remembering those we have lost this year. We hope to foster a spirit of loyalty and to promote the welfare of our Old Boy members. The Old Boys Association is an extension of the College and strongly supports its goals.

We welcome your feedback and contributions to oldboys@stpiusx.nsw.edu.auand you can stay up to date by following us on Facebook @SPX Chatswood Old Boys

About the Old Boys Association

The SPX OBA endeavours to provide and encourage a network for Old Boys in the professional and business community with the view to also providing career mentoring for current St Pius X students.

Through various fund-raising activities and donations, the SPXOBA currently provides financial assistance to current SPX students in their pursuit of excellence and also provides funds to various projects throughout the college, the college community and internationally through the Edmund Rice Foundation (Christian Brothers) aid initiatives.

New Executive Committee

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to a remarkable leader, Jeffrey Clarke, who has served as our President since 2015. As he concludes his tenure, we reflect on the incredible contributions he has made to our organisation and the SPX community.

Under Jeffrey's guidance, we celebrated the 85th Anniversary of St Pius X College, marking a significant milestone in our history. His commitment to preserving our traditions while fostering growth has left an indelible mark on the fabric of our community. Jeffrey's dedication extended beyond mere celebrations; he played a pivotal role in keeping the Old Boys BBQ vibrant. Through his leadership, he ensured the continued success of the Speechcraft Student Leader Presentation Course, Kokoda Expeditions, and Academic and Pastoral Care Scholarships. These programs stand as a testament to his commitment to the holistic development of our students and the broader SPX community.

As we bid farewell to the remarkable leadership of Jeffrey Clarke, we warmly welcome Barry Wong, Class of 1968, to the helm as our incoming President. Barry brings with him a wealth of experience, a strong connection to our roots, and a passion for advancing the goals of our organisation.

Over the next 12 months, Barry will be spearheading various initiatives aimed at enhancing the St Pius X College community. One of his key focus areas will be the Business Networking Group, where together with Dave Bullard, he aims to provide valuable advice, support, and mentorship for students and recent Old Boys embarking on their professional journeys. Barry understands the importance of learning from the experiences of those who came before, and he is committed to ensuring that the next generation benefits from the invaluable lessons of their predecessors.

In addition to his work with the Business Networking Group, Barry will actively engage in the recruitment of new members to the committee. His goal is to bring together individuals who share a passion for our community and a dedication to its continued growth and success. Barry recognises the strength of a united and diverse committee in driving positive change.

New College Principal 2023 Mr Michael Ronchetti

Michael was the Principal at St Dominic’s College, Penrith, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership for eight years. Prior to that he served in leadership roles at Christian Brothers’ High School, Lewisham and Marist College, Kogarah. He is himself an old boy from Christian Brothers High School Lewisham.

Michael complements his leadership experience with a sound academic record with a Master of Educational Leadership, a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Education from the Australian Catholic University.

He is an active member of St Bernadette’s Church in Clemton Park and enjoys football, golf and spending time with his family.

Mr Sean Brannan Assistant Principal - Pastoral Care and Wellbeing (Class of 1986)

After 23 years as a valued and dedicated member of St Pius X College, Mr Sean Brannan will be taking one-years leave to pursue a professional opportunity at Mater Maria Warriewood as Director of Learning.

This is a great opportunity for Mr Brannan to share his wealth of knowledge and experience that he has gained over his time at St Pius X with another Catholic community.

The College will truly miss his expertise in so many facets, in particular, his knowledge and passion for the history and traditions of the College he and his family have been part of for many, many years.

This is a very exciting time for Mr Brannan, and he will be sorely missed. Congratulations to Mr Brannan on this significant appointment, and we express our gratitude and best of luck in his role at Mater Maria Warriewood.  We look forward, in anticipation, to his return in 2025.
