Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

The 2026 Parent / Carer Opinion Survey is now open, and we encourage families to take the opportunity to provide feedback about Macedon Primary School.

The annual survey, conducted by the Department of Education, helps us understand families’ views about school climate, student behaviour and engagement. Your feedback is important and helps inform our future planning and school improvement priorities.

The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and is open until Friday 18 September 2026. Responses are anonymous and completely confidential.

Student Expo – Wednesday 16 September

Our Student Expo will be held on Wednesday 16 September from 3:45–5:45pm.

Students across the school have been working hard to prepare for the afternoon and are excited to share their learning with families and the wider school community.

There has already been some fantastic work happening around the school. It was great to see 2/3TU filming their own original movies, which they have scripted themselves, while our Grade 1/2 students are busy creating a replica of Macedon as part of their learning.

We are looking forward to welcoming families into the school to see the creativity, effort and learning that has gone into preparing for the Expo.

2027 Parent Placement Requests

Towards the end of October, we will begin the important process of creating our classes for 2027.

Creating balanced classes is a significant task. Last year, we considered almost 70 parent requests, along with student friendship preferences, learning needs and teacher recommendations. We aim to have as much relevant information as possible before beginning this process.

Parents and carers are welcome to submit placement requests to me by Friday 9 October. Requests should relate to your child’s friendships, learning needs or other factors that may support their successful placement.

Please note that we do not accept requests for specific teachers.

While we cannot guarantee that every request will be accommodated, all information provided will be carefully considered as part of the class placement process.

Riding to School

We have recently received a number of concerns from members of the community about students riding bikes unsafely on footpaths while travelling to and from school.

We have spoken with students about the importance of sharing footpaths safely with pedestrians, including slowing down when approaching others, giving people plenty of space and being mindful of younger children and other community members.

If your child rides their bike or scooter to school, we would appreciate you reinforcing these messages at home and reminding them to ride safely and respectfully.

Reminder: Parent Teacher Interviews

A reminder that our Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 8 September and Wednesday 9 September.

Bookings are now available through Compass. These interviews are a valuable opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss their progress, learning and wellbeing.

If you have not yet made a booking, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

If you are unable to attend during the scheduled interview times, please contact your child’s teacher directly to arrange an alternative time.

Students Leaving

As part of our preparations for the 2027 school year, we are beginning to plan our class structures, staffing and resources for next year. Having an accurate picture of our expected student numbers is an important part of this process.

If your child will be leaving Macedon Primary School at the end of this year to attend another school in 2027, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible.

We would be very grateful for your assistance, as accurate enrolment information helps us plan effectively for the year ahead.

Attendance Update

Regular attendance is very important and makes a significant difference to student learning. In Victoria, all children aged 6 to 17 are required to attend school every day unless an exemption has been granted, and parents and carers must provide an explanation for any absence.

At Macedon Primary School, we are aiming for our average number of absences per child to be under 16.5 days for the year. If a child is averaging more than 5 days absent per term, Sue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing teacher, will contact families to discuss how we can work together to support improved attendance. We also ask that any family holidays during school time are discussed with the school and approved in advance.
