Hello Senior School parents.

During Book Week celebrations last week, the students enjoyed lunchtime book reading, buddy reading and participating in an exciting Book Week Parade. It has been fantastic to see our students sharing their love of books and showing off their creativity through their costumes.

Many students competed in Athletics Day, demonstrating fantastic effort, teamwork and sportsmanship. We are also incredibly proud of the students who are representing Scoresby in the State School Spectacular, performing at John Cain Arena. We wish them all the very best for their performances!

The excitement is certainly building as we look forward to our Senior School Camp to Portsea next week! Students have been busy preparing and are eagerly anticipating this special opportunity to spend time together outside of the classroom.

Camp is a wonderful chance for students to build friendships, develop independence, challenge themselves and create lasting memories with their classmates and teachers. We are looking forward to seeing students try new experiences, work together as a team and enjoy everything that camp has to offer.

There is already plenty of excitement around the school as we count down the days! We are hoping for some beautiful weather so our students can make the most of their time in Portsea.

Senior School Activities

Scoresby Superstars- Book Week

On the 21st of August, the whole school participated in Scoresby Superstars as part of our Book Week celebrations. To begin the session, the teachers read a book called Frogs Are Our Friends.

Once the story was finished, students took part in an activity where they summarised their favourite books, rated them and drew a picture to help create a clearer image of what the book was about.

Overall, the session was very enjoyable and filled with creativity, imagination and vivid images inspired by books. It was definitely a highlight of our favourite week of the year – Book Week!

Book Reading and Buddies Reading

Last week, with the help of Jenny, the captains read to anyone who came to the 5/6 collaborative space at every lunch eating time. Our captains read some amazing books that The Children's Book Council had picked to get a shortlisted book award. All the books that we read had one of those awards. 

Some of the books that we read were Derek, Bob And Dob, The Emperor's Egg, Once I Was a Giant and a couple more. With the help from Jenny all the kids could look at all the amazing illustrations plus if they wanted to read along in their heads. It was so much fun both for the captains and the kids listening.

Last Monday the year 6s went to the library for their buddy session. Firstly we all listened to Mrs Hartley read a book to us, then we got to read lots of good books to our buddies. Our buddies enjoyed listening to the stories, even some of them even read a little bit of the books.

Book Week Parade

Book Week is a week that celebrates children’s literature and highlights the love of reading. In honour of this, the whole school dressed up as characters and covers from their favourite books.

In the morning, we had a parade showcasing all of our creative outfits. The Prep–2 staff dressed up as characters from Where’s Wally?, while the Year 4/5/6 teachers dressed up as characters from the novel Storm Boy.

There were lots of smiles and laughter throughout the day, from both the students and teachers. We saw many creative costumes, including basketball players, Mr Cool, the Mandalorian, Pikachu, soccer players, Star Wars characters and Baby Yoda. 

It was a fantastic day celebrating books, reading and our love of literature!
