Principal's Report

A warm welcome back to all families following the holiday break. It has been wonderful to see students return with enthusiasm and readiness for learning. Term 3 has already begun with great momentum as we celebrated NAIDOC Week. Our Yirra Yaarkin Theatre incursion was a highlight, offering students a rich cultural experience, and our K3–K4 NAIDOC performance showcased the pride, creativity and respect our students bring to learning about First Nations culture. Thank you to staff and families for supporting these important events.

NAPLAN – Year 3 and Year 5 Families

NAPLAN individual student reports have now been sent home to Year 3 and Year 5 families, along with an information flyer explaining how to interpret the results. These reports provide a snapshot of your child’s literacy and numeracy development and how they are progressing against national proficiency standards.

Families seeking further detail can visit the NAPLAN website, which includes clear explanations of:

• Proficiency standards
• Adaptive online testing
• NAPLAN domains

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

All Australian schools participate annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This process recognises the supports and adjustments schools provide to students with disability, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

Schools provide information on:

• year level
• category of disability (physical, cognitive, sensory, social/emotional)
• level of adjustment (quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial, extensive)

This data helps schools strengthen support practices and assists governments in planning for student needs nationally. The NCCD has no direct impact on your child, involves no testing, and all information is submitted in a way that ensures student privacy and confidentiality.

To complete your claim, you will need your child’s 8-digit WA Student Number. If you do not have this number, please contact the school, and we will be happy to provide it.

Curtin Volunteers Program – Commencing Next Week

This week we welcome the Curtin Volunteers program to Pioneer Village School. This initiative connects Curtin University students with local schools to provide practical support and community engagement. Volunteers will be working with our Gardening Club, helping students develop hands‑on gardening skills, maintain outdoor spaces, and learn more about sustainability.

This partnership brings valuable benefits including:

• Student mentoring
• Community partnerships
• Support for school clubs

As we settle into Term 3, I wish all families the very best for the weeks ahead.
