Year 3/4 - Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have made it to the end of Term 2 and can’t believe we are already halfway through the year! It has been a busy term with many highlights, including the Athletics Carnival, our Urban Upcycle Incursion, and the ENPS Disco Day on Tuesday.

Thank you to the parents who were able to help set up the hall for the disco and assist with facilitating the event. The hall looked amazing, and the students had a fabulous time!

What’s Been Happening in Year 3/4 This Week?

English

We have continued our poetry unit, exploring a range of poem types, including acrostic, limerick, shape, and diamante poems. Students have been learning about the features and structures of each form and have had the opportunity to create their own poems in each style.

During Literacy Skills, students focused on building their understanding of suffixing rules, specifically “just add” and “drop the e” when adding endings. They practised applying these rules while reading, spelling, and analysing words with the suffixes “-ed” and “-ing”. This supported their ability to recognise patterns in words and improve their accuracy and confidence in both reading and writing.

Mathematics

Last week in Mathematics, we continued our focus on time. Students practised telling the time to the hour, half-hour, and minute, as well as calculating the duration of events using both analogue and digital clocks. They also practised reading and interpreting times using the concepts of “past” and “to” the hour, building their confidence in using a range of time-telling strategies.

We also began preparing for our Multiplicative Thinking unit next term by completing pre-assessments on Essential Assessment for multiplication and division.

Inquiry

Over the past few weeks, students have been busy creating amazing inventions as part of our Inquiry unit, What Makes a Design Go Bang? On Friday morning, we will visit each other's classrooms for our Invention Convention, where students will have the opportunity to share and view each other’s creations.

At-Home Project

Students presented their Inventor Projects this week. It was absolutely wonderful to see their passion and enthusiasm as they shared information about their chosen inventor’s life and inventions.

Thank you for supporting your child at home with the completion of these projects. Your support is greatly appreciated!
