School Council

Dear Fellow Parents,
Hopefully everyone's family and children have settled in nicely to the new school year. From my time around the school, I see lots of smiling young faces and relived older ones.
For those of you who have been around the school yard since our return, you may have noticed the synthetic turf next to the basketball courts was replaced over the break. This had become quite dilapidated over the years and was certainly in need for a refresh. The new grass looks great and will last for many years to come.
On a less fortunate note, the trees we planted a while back have certainly suffered due to the extreme heat despite the irrigation system. Hopefully they bounce back in the spring with some TLC from Bernard our facilities manager.
An early success this year has been the introduction of trolleys for iPads in the grades 3-6 area, and our P-2 students not bringing iPads to school at all. As a parent of four children I can say firsthand this has been welcomed in my household, and from discussions with staff it has been a calming influence in the grades. A great deal of work went in from the school, including school council, to come to this decision and it is great that early signs show it is working as planned.
These projects of school council, be they buildings and grounds projects, or IT projects, or other projects we have done such as camping programs, homework policies and assisting with school events are all the types of things school council does.
Right now we are seeking members for our new council. If you would like to contribute to such projects, be a voice for parents on council, and a helping hand around the school please consider using this link to find out more. Nominations open today and close on February 23rd with nomination forms available at the office. It would be great to have current councillors re-nominate, and some new faces join us. Please consider nominating and if you need any assistance please ask at the office. All members of school council must have a current Working with Children's Check and submit this to the office with their nomination.
Kind Regards,
Vince Scarfo
School Council President
