Teaching

Dear Yr 3 and Yr 5 Families,

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students is held in March each year. In 2025, the NAPLAN test window is between Wednesday 11th March and Monday 23rd March.

NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents/carers, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.

All tests (except the Yr 3 Writing Test) will be administered online. Therefore, each student will need a pair of headphones. Please send a pair to school with your child before Week 7 if you haven't already done so.

Please find our St Mary’s NAPLAN Testing Schedule below.

Catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days up to and including Monday 23rd March 2025.

We will also be administering a practice test on Friday 27th February, to allow the students to become familiar with the platform and test environment.

Later in the year, you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

For more information about the tests, please visit the VCAA website at: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au or the NAP website at: www.nap.edu.au. Please feel free to contact me, if you have any queries.

Yours sincerely,

Emma Strom
