We will complete the text Can You See Me? by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott which follows the story of Tally, an 11-year-old girl with autism who is navigating the challenges of starting high school. Students will have time and opportunity to explore themes of understanding, acceptance, and the importance of empathy in our society.

Our second novel will be Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend which is a magical fantasy adventure about a girl called Morrigan who gets a second chance in a secret city. Morrigan stays in a safe, unusual hotel run by Jupiter North who takes Morrigan to the magical city of Nevermoor, a hidden, wondrous city filled with weird and exciting sights including a world filled with wondrous creatures, eccentric citizens, and magical customs.

We will be explicitly teaching students to actively think about the ideas and explore vocabulary during and after reading Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend. To support students in their comprehension we will pause during our reading of the text to explain, model and guide students including assisting them to identify key ideas, ask questions to clarify thinking, to reason with evidence, and analyse how the author has made the text interesting by using figurative language.
