Literacy:

This fortnight, our Prep students learned to recognise and read the sounds and letters j, w, and v. They practised spelling words such as job, wag, van, and Jim, strengthening their phonics and early spelling skills. Students also continued to develop their handwriting by correctly forming the upper- and lower-case letters w, v, j, g, and k. In addition, they learned and practised reading and writing the high-frequency words she, he, and me, helping to build their confidence, fluency, and independence in both reading and writing.

Our Grade 1/2 students continued exploring different ways to represent the long ‘o’ sound by learning the letter patterns ‘oa’, ‘ow’, and ‘o_e’. They practised reading and spelling words such as vote, froze, shown, explode, roadblock, goal, stroke, zone, raincoat, and rainbow, building their decoding, spelling, and reading fluency. Students also explored compound words and the suffixes comparative -er and superlative -est, learning how these word parts change meaning and using them to read, spell, and explain a range of new vocabulary.

For Writing tudents began learning about recount writing. They explored the purpose and structure of a recount, learning that recounts retell events in the order they happened. Students were introduced to the 5 W’s—who, what, when, where, and why—to help them include the important information in their writing. As their confidence grew, students also began adding more detail to their recounts by describing events and sharing their thoughts and feelings, helping to make their writing more engaging and informative.

Maths:

This fortnight, our junior students began exploring measurement by comparing the length and height of different objects using direct comparison. They investigated which objects were longer or shorter and identified the tallest and shortest towers they had built. Students also compared everyday objects to determine whether they were longer or shorter than a streamer. These hands-on activities helped students develop their understanding of measurement vocabulary and strengthened their ability to compare and describe the attributes of different objects.
