Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on

Wheel of Positive Behaviour

Congratulations to our recent Positive Behaviour Commendation winners, drawn at the end of Term 2!  Students receive commendations for consistently displaying positive behaviour in class and at school.

All commendations go into the 'Wheel of Positive Behaviour', where winners are drawn to receive a voucher generously donated by a local business.

Thank you to Horsham Golf Club, INTERSPORT Horsham, and McDonald's Horsham for being our recent sponsors!

Hands On Learning

The St Brigid’s College Hands on Learning Cafe program began at the beginning of Term 2 - and what a term it was! Friendships were formed, new skills were developed, and every student’s confidence blossomed.

The students’ end-of-term reflections speak for themselves:

"I liked doing service and serving the food to students, and brainstorming what we could sell each week"

"I enjoyed that I was getting pushed to my limits and doing something I enjoyed and the group of people were amazing. We all enjoyed different things and we all got along, it was great because we all developed our skills which will be handy in the real world when we all get jobs working. We all flourished into better people, this will help us in the classroom"

"It has improved my cooking skills and it has been pretty good"

"I liked that we get to eat and try different foods, hang with people and make new friends in the program. We got Hands On Learning shirts for us all to wear. We got to go out for lunch which was really nice. Getting treated well and knowing you always have this place if home doesn’t feel like home"

"Learning new skills, working on getting on time and behaving. Having lunch every Thursday, getting to know everyone better. Having a stronger relationship with teachers. Learning how to prepare and cook new food and most of all having fun"

A special thank you to Learning Support Officers Melanie Bennett and Isabella Griffiths, whose passion and dedication in leading the program have played a significant role in its success for our students.

We look forward to seeing what's to come from HoL Cafe in Term 3!

Carnival Games

In the last week of Term 2 the annual Year 8 Maths Carnival was held! Throughout the term, students studied the topic of chance and probability. Their term project involved them designing and building a carnival-style game. Before the carnival day, the students had to calculate the theoretical probability of each of the outcomes of their game, and on the day they collected the data.

Watch This Space!

Something very exciting is coming to our classrooms at St Brigid's College!

We're proud to be the first school in the region to open a dedicated Virtual Reality (VR) Lab for our students. By creating immersive experiences, VR will support student engagement, break down barriers to understanding and equip students with skills for the future workforce.

We can't wait to share this with our College community.

Watch this space as we implement VR during Term 3 this year!

Year 10 Pathways Immersion

During Term 2, Year 10 students participated in the Pathways Immersion to Deakin University & South West TAFE in Warrnambool. This was a valuable opportunity for students to explore real-world study and career options by visiting a TAFE and university facility. Thank you to Deakin University, SW TAFE and the South West Skills and Job Centre for hosting our students!

While visiting Deakin University, students met with St Brigid’s College alumni, Scarlett Munday-Terry, now a second-year Occupational Therapy student.  Scarlett lives at the student residence on campus in Warrnambool, and has taken on a leadership role within the residence community.

You can read more about Scarlett's university journey here:

Careers Expo

Last week our Year 9-12 students attended the Western Victorian Careers Expo at Longerenong. With around 70 exhibitors, 8 different seminars, the Tertiary Information Session, interactive VET Centre, Longerenong College tours and the Apprenticeship Drop-in Centre, it was a great opportunity for students to ask questions and to find out more about future pathways.

We also ran into St Brigid's College past student, Rani Hogan, who was attending the expo with Latrobe University.
