Diwali Celebrations
We celebrated Diwali and Children’s Day on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Lyndhurst which are two important Indian festivals. The celebrations were organised by the Year 7 and 8 students studying Hindi, with the support of their teacher Ms. Shally Khanna. The festivities included a special assembly for the whole school and various cultural activities during lunch time.
The assembly was attended by several distinguished guests from the community and the Indian diaspora, including Ms. Heather Rae, Mr. Shashi Kochhar, Dr. Subhash Sharma, Dr. Santosh Yadav, and Mr. Manoj Kumar. Our special guests were invited to light the lamp, a symbol of knowledge and wisdom and students sang the Australian National Anthem, followed by the teachers singing the Indian National Anthem. The highlight of the assembly was a Bollywood dance performance by the LSC teachers, choreographed by Ms. Khanna.
The students also entertained the audience with a dance performance of their own, creating a festive atmosphere.
During lunch time, students had the opportunity to experience various aspects of Indian culture through different activities such as henna tattoos, making rangoli patterns, drawing and colouring pictures, decorating and painting clay lamps and candles, and enjoying non-stop Bollywood music by Aura Events.
We were also fortunate enough to be taught some Bollywood dance moves from Rhythm Squad, a professional dance group.
The Diwali and Children’s Day program was a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
