Principal's Message

Dear St John's Community,
Viva il Papa - That was a common cry in Rome this morning at the announcement of a new Pope. Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the first American pontiff and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Pope Leo is 69 years old and from Chicago. He spent much of his career as a missionary in South America, is a mathematician, and speaks multiple languages. He is seen as a moderate in the Church and is likely to focus on finding common ground between those within the Faith on the most important issues. We offer our thanks and our prayers to him as he picks up the mantle of the Catholic Church.
Under his guidance as Pope, Catholic educators across the world have been encouraged to lead with care, understanding and hope in nurturing the faith and lives of young people and sharing the joy of the Gospel message.
Mother's Day Weekend
While some of us have lost or no longer have contact with some of the special women who have graced our lives or crossed our paths, this weekend provides us an opportunity to remember them and also to honour those who are a part of our lives today. It’s a special time to pause and reflect on the incredible women who nurture, support, and inspire us. Whether they are mums, grandmothers, aunties, nonnas, grandmammas (No, I didn't make that one up!) or special women who play a guiding role in our lives.
At school, we see every day how much love and care children bring from home. It shows in their resilience, their kindness, and their curiosity. These qualities are often nurtured by all those around them but at this time we specifically remember the women who guide and teaching them to be brave, to try again, and to love and care deeply.
To all the mothers and special friends or motherly figures in the lives of all members of our community, I say, from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all of us...THANK YOU! Thank you for early mornings, encouraging words, quiet sacrifices, and boundless love. I also feel its important to include here a few things the kids have said they want to thank mums for as well that I've heard this week.
- Thanks for answering all my questions
- For pretending to love every picture I draw even though I know they're not that good (love this one!)
- For the best cuddles
- For letting me lick the spoon when she makes cakes for us
- Knowing where all my stuff is...all the time!
We hope this Mother’s Day brings moments of peace, gratitude, and joy. You deserve it.

And an extra special THANK YOU to all those who made the morning possible!

Letter for Parish Support from Fr Chinua
Thanks, James!
We have not heard anything further regarding James's passing away. We can only assume the family are keeping things private while they work through his loss. We continue to keep them in our prayers and thank you to those families who placed flowers near the crossing to remember him.
Special Birthday
For those of you who know and love him, our friendly neighbours on Coral St, John Miller and his faithful Harry the Dog, have a special day next Tuesday. John is turning 80, and while life continues to throw some health challenges his way he still loves taking Harry to meet the kids at the crossing as often as he can. Don't forget to wish him a happy birthday next Tuesday, 13th May.

Jokes of the week:
What mums say!
- I used to think I was a morning person, but then I had kids. Now, I'm more of a "give me all the coffee" person
- I asked my mum if I was adopted. She said, "Not yet. We're still waiting for someone to come and claim you."
- When I asked my mum if she'd make me a sandwich, she said, "Abracadabra! You're a sandwich!"
- I asked Mum what it's like having the best daughter in the world. She said, "You'll have to ask grandma!"
Fun facts of the week:
Women are biologically sensitive to high-pitched noises so they can hear their offspring even when they're asleep.
Women have a better sense of smell than men.
Women see 20% more colour than men because of their dual X chromosomes while men only have one X chromosome.
On average, women speak 13,000 more words than men on a daily basis. (My fav)
