From the Desk of Kathy Nott - Term 2, Week 10

Good afternoon, Parents/Carers,

With less than two weeks left of Term 2, there are still many activities and events to take place.  Please ensure you look to the newsletter calendar and Facebook for upcoming events.

Turn Up Awards

The "Turn Up" award was introduced last year to encourage our students to attend school every day.  Each day your child attends their name will be entered into the draw to receive a paddle pop voucher.  A voucher will be issued each week to each class.  If your child attends 5 times in that week they have 5 entries.  If they attend two days in that week they have 2 entries. Congratulations to our winners for Week 8 & 9:

K/1B -     Violet

2/3O -      Alex & Harry

4/5/6T -   Telmie & Arabella

Home Reading

Congratulations to Millie, Marcos & Emily for achieving 75 nights of home reading, Joe & Arabella for achieving 100 nights of home reading.  Home reading is encouraged at Werris Creek Public School.  Just 10 minutes per night can make a difference.  To encourage our students to read at home, we offer some great incentives.  See the image below with our incentive program. If you would like some tips on encouraging your child to read, please see their classroom teacher.

We have 38 Students in total attending 90% or above.  Keep up the good work as attendance matters.

If your child is to be absent from school for any reason, please ensure you contact the school office to advise or reply to the SMS message that is sent on the day of absence.  It is important that we notify the department the reason your child is not attending school.

School Office Hours Change for Week 10

Please note that Helen will be on leave for this week, therefore the office will be unattended on the Mondays and Thursdays of these weeks.  If you need to purchase items, Barb will be in on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays.  Also, if you need to make an appointment or pick up your child/children early on these days please contact the School Mobile on 0488 248 250.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/Teacher Interviews are taking place over this week until the end of term.  This is a great opportunity to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their progress throughout the first semester.  Notes for an appointment have been sent home.  If you have not received a note, please contact the school office.  We ask that you indicate three preferences of dates and times that staff are available and we will endeavour to accommodate you.  If you are unable to make any of the times indicated, please contact us to arrange another time with your child's teacher.

NAIDOC Week

We will be celebrating NAIDOC Week next week.  This year's theme is "50 Years of Deadly" as NAIDOC is now in its 50th year. On Monday, 12 students in 4/5/6T will be representing WCPS by attending the NAIDOC Cup at Wallhallow Public School. We wish them well and look forward to hearing the results.  On Wednesday, 1st July we will hold a small ceremony to mark NAIDOC Week with our students and participate in some activities in the classroom.  Our 4/5/6T class will then make their way to Werris Creek Hospital to participate in their acknowledgement of NAIDOC week with a flag raising ceremony and lunch with the residents.

Kind regards
