PRAYER
Last weekend the church celebrated Pentecost Sunday, which concludes the Easter season (the 50 days between Easter Sunday and Pentecost). Pentecost celebrates the event described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1-41), where the Holy Spirit appeared to the apostles in the form of wind and fire, empowering them to speak in different languages and begin their public ministry.
Pentecost is often referred to as the "birthday of the Church," as it marks the point when the apostles, now empowered by the Holy Spirit, began to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of all nations. This Feast Day is a joyous occasion for Catholics, symbolising the ongoing presence and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It encourages us to embrace our call to share the love of Christ with others.
Below is a simple Catholic prayer for Pentecost that families may like to pray together. This prayer acknowledges the Holy Spirit's role in revitalising the church and the world, and it asks for His guidance and power:
Come, Holy Spirit
Fill our hearts with
Your fire and grace
And inspire us
To new beginnings
