Sovereign Hill Camp
Years 5&6
Earlier this term, our Year 5 & 6 students enjoyed a wonderful three-day, two-night camp at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. From Monday 11th – Wednesday 13th August, students and staff travelled just two hours from Highvale to experience a memorable mix of history, learning, and fun.
Students stayed in comfortable indoor bunkhouses with separate facilities for boys and girls, and the camp was fully catered, supervised to our every need.
Highlights of the camp included the gold pour demonstration, Red Hill Mine tour, candle dipping, Chinese and Aboriginal perspectives sessions, and full access to the Sovereign Hill museum.
These experiences brought history to life in exciting and interactive ways.
Beyond the activities, camp gave students the chance to build independence, strengthen friendships, and develop social and organisational skills, while learning new routines and responsibilities.
It was a fantastic experience for all, and we are proud to see our students embracing the challenges, opportunities, and fun that camp provides! Here's is what the students thought!
"The activities were amazing and I couldn't believe the recreation of the town was BIG. Even some of the shops were real! It was the best experience."
Zoe
"I found camp really fun. My favourite parts were eating at the New York Bakery, candle dipping and the candy making store. Best camp ever!"
Olivia
"I am not here to critic the food, as I am a fussy eater myself. I am here to tell you that we did candle dipping and with no doubt it was low key the best! We got a candle and dipped it into colours that were pretty. It was hot coloured wax, 180 degrees and then dipped it into cold water. IT WAS AWESOME!"
Eleni
"My favourite part about camp was watching the movie Paper Planes it was so fun watching with all my friends."
Crystal
"My favourite part of Sovereign Hill camp was getting to experience a breathtaking show in the Victorian theatre. It was truly magic watching the actors. I ABSOLUTELY loved it!"
