Book Week 2025

Book Week at Highvale

In Week 5 we celebrated Book Week at Highvale Primary School. The 2025 theme was “Book an Adventure”, students immersed themselves in a variety of new and enjoyable lessons that took their imaginations on different adventures!

Some of the highlights of the week were our class swaps, where students went to a different year level for an hour to read a book with a different teacher, our visit from anime artist Kenny Chan and our Book Week Parade which saw our students and teachers dress up in some fantastic outfits which were inspired by their favourite book characters.

Let’s hear what some of the students had to say about the week:

Class swaps

Jenil 2J: I like it because we got to meet new teachers, and the best activity was drawing a book character!

Ansh 5X: I liked making a spider out of pipe cleaners and googly eyes because we could use the spiders for our own games after the lesson.

Ella 1D: I liked going to different classes because we got  to do all different activities in different classrooms!

Kenny Chan incursion

Aleina, Eleni and Faith 5X: On the 19th of August we got this incursion where an illustrator came to our school! His name was Kenny Chan. He showed us how to draw bodies and eyes. Next, he showed us how to do hair and clothes. Finally, we drew feet and jewellery. Personally, our favourite part was… almost everything! Lastly, Kenny kept telling us how to draw different things and even helped us draw potatoes and carrots!

Xin Xin 2M: I liked learning how to draw characters. We learned how to draw in different ways!

Aaron 5S: I enjoy reading manga comics and I really wanted to know how they drew the characters. Now I know how to draw characters so I’m really happy!

Book Week Parade

Kenul 2J: I liked dressing up as Steve from Minecraft and my brother dressed up as Tin Tin. I liked seeing all the different Where’s Wallys that were hiding around the school.

Minul 5X: I dressed up as Tintin because I wanted to dress up as someone different to the other students, so I chose a unique character.

Leo 1D: I dressed up as the character from Do Not Open This Book! I wore a T-shirt with his face on it. It was cool to see everyone as their favourite characters.
