Principal's Message
Mr Forrest
I hope everybody had a great September holiday break and now ready for the final school term for 2026. We wish the Year 12 VCE students all the very best for their upcoming exams in week four. Their final formal day of classes is this Friday the 16th of October, with a special Graduation Dinner on the night before in Steel Stadium. We will have a special Whole School Assembly for the Year 12's Friday, commencing at 10am, followed by a morning tea with staff and a lunch for all Year 12s.
On Tuesday we welcomed our 2027 Year 7 Class for a full transition day. It was the second time the students have visited us recently. We look forward to seeing our 2027 Year 7 students return on 2nd December for another day of transition, heading towards their commencement 28th of January, 2027.

With the weather finally starting to warm up, its time to think about our safety again as we are more inclined to be out and about. Keep an eye out for any slithery snake friends as they are on the move at the moment. I have seen some enormous black snakes already on my travels recently.
Remember we are in sun smart mode, so all students will need to wear a broad brimmed hat outside. Please remember to always wear helmets when riding bikes and scooters.

An early reminder that on Monday 2nd of November is a Curriculum Day and the following day is the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday. In the past everyone has appreciated the double long weekend as it is the last mini break before Christmas.
Please keep an eye out on COMPASS, Facebook for all information regarding school events this term.
Yes we are all very frustrated at the time it has taken for the cookbook to be delivered. Please see the latest update from the company below from yesterday afternoon. When it arrives rest assured we will distribute it very quickly.

We have had a very busy start to Term 4 and could do without the battle over our school trees. Our College is currently working through an issue regarding the proposed removal of several established trees on our school grounds to meet Shelter-in-Place (SIP - junior Primary Building) emergency management requirements.
We strongly believe these trees do not need to be removed and that common sense should prevail.
The College has proposed a simple, practical and cost-free alternative that we believe will meet all emergency management, extreme weather and bushfire safety requirements while allowing our valuable trees to remain.
Importantly, our proposal would also see Wedderburn College and Early Learning Centre students and staff sheltering together in the same modern, purpose-built facility, equipped with backup power and excellent fire protection systems. This would provide a more coordinated approach for emergency services and the entire school community.
Our message is simple: We can protect our students, meet safety requirements and save our trees. We should not have to choose between them.
We are continuing positive discussions with the relevant authorities and have requested that no trees be removed while our alternative proposal is considered.
As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our number one priority.
We will keep everyone informed of what stage the 'SAVE our Trees'
battle is at and to whether or not we will launch a social media and mainstream media campaign.

Important Information for Parents, Carers and the School Community
Works on the new pedestrian crossings around Wedderburn College are continuing, with construction now expected to take at least another three weeks, minimum.
As these important road safety improvements progress, Chapel Street and Hospital Street will be closed to through traffic during the school day, with access available during designated morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
Please note:
While we understand these ongoing works may cause some inconvenience, the installation of four new pedestrian crossings will significantly improve safety for our students, families, staff and wider community.
We thank everyone for their patience, cooperation and understanding as these important improvements are completed.

We have a number of happenings with our school staff. We celebrate the annual World Teachers Day with a surprise Mock Wedding for Dave & Miss Emily last Thursday. We wish them all the very best with their up coming wedding in two weeks. We hope the weather is magnificent and on behalf of the Wedderburn Community we wish you both a future full of happiness. At the end of last term we said goodbye to Mary Sebti our schools Mental Health Practitioner for the past few years in a combined partnership between IDHS & Wedderburn College. Well done to the Ansett staff who won the staff fitness challenge last term with a narrow victory over Jacka staff - keep up the great work everyone.
Parents and carers will soon have the opportunity to book a Learning Conversation with their child's teachers.
Tuesday 10 November 2026 (Week 6)Time: 1:30 pm – 5:45 pm
Learning Conversations provide a valuable opportunity for parents, students and teachers to come together to celebrate student achievements, discuss learning progress and identify goals for continued growth.
We strongly encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with our teaching staff and play an active role in their child's education.
Booking information will be shared with families shortly.
