College Musicals

Chicago: Teen Edition was a wonderful musical experience, and huge congratulations must go to Mrs Price, the cast, and the many Senior School students and staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, in lighting and sound, and as members of the orchestra. 

The production was highly entertaining, polished and professional, and once again highlighted the enormous talent we have among our College students and staff. As I watched the show unfold, I began to notice the impressive number of Year 7 students performing in the ensemble who had commenced their musical journeys just two years ago at the Junior School as cast members of Frozen Jr — Hugo Cameron, Livvy Bell, Gwyn Nettleton, Freddy Nagorcka, Aida Adamson, Mi-Ha Kim, Theo Horne, Adelaide Farquharson, Ayra Bouchier, Isaabelle Bricknall and Maelys Haynes. They all did a fabulous job, and it was wonderful to see how much they have developed in such a short time. Henry Bufton and Archie Barber in Year 7 also had important roles in the backstage crew. 

With Dare to Dream set to take the stage in early Term Four, I wonder how many of the students involved in our Junior School production will one day have the confidence to audition for a Senior School musical? My guess is many. Experiences such as these not only develop musical and dramatic skills, but also build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone. 

We are indeed fortunate to have such talented and dedicated staff in our Music and Drama departments who provide our students with these wonderful opportunities to discover their talents, develop their confidence and, perhaps most importantly, discover a lifelong love of performance. It is particularly rewarding to see students who first stepped onto a stage at the Junior School continuing that journey into the Senior School. 

It is a wonderful reminder that the seeds we plant early can, with encouragement and opportunity, grow into something truly special.

ELC Parent Open Morning

The Junior School is hosting an Open Morning for interested Early Learning Centre parents on Tuesday, 18 August. We will commence at 8.45 am, with coffee in the Myrniong Homestead and a chance to meet our Junior School student leaders. We will then tour the classrooms and experience the learning opportunities on offer at the Junior School. All ELC 3 and ELC 4 parents are warmly invited to attend.

Week 4 Assembly and Berry House fundraiser / Service

This week’s Assembly theme was ‘Make A Wish’. Berry House will run a fundraiser on Friday, and proceeds will be donated to the ‘Make A Wish’ Foundation. Students are encouraged to dress as 'Wear what you wish'.   

We look forward to the Berry House Service next Monday morning, 17 August at 10.15 am. All Junior School and ELC parents are welcome to attend. Berry House’s theme is ‘Generosity’. 

The following students were awarded Star Student Awards at this week’s Assembly.

• Prep - Winnie Mann for consistently trying her best across all learning areas, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy. Winnie approaches her reading and writing tasks with care and determination and actively contributes during Mathematics lessons by sharing her thinking and having a go at new challenges. Well done, Winnie!

   

• Prep - Dexter Savin for showing resilience and initiative in his learning. Dexter responds positively to feedback and is willing to revisit his work to make improvements. He has shown great effort and determination across all learning areas and demonstrates a positive attitude towards improving his work. Well done, Dexter!

   

• Year 1 - Harry McClure for much improved focus in class and presentation of his written work. As well as his contributions of interesting and inquiring questions in class discussions, during our science lessons.

• Year 1 - Ralph Cameron for recognition of his growth and determination in improved oral reading, and for showing increasing courage in speaking up to ask for help when needed. 

• Year 2 - Lucy Wall for the excellent effort you have put into our First Nations Australians unit in Inquiry and your presentation of the Dreamtime story The Rainbow Serpent. 

   

• Year 3 - Sophie Harvey for being a positive and enthusiastic learner and friend who brings a smile to school with her every day. 

   

• Year 4 - Rosie Bell for being actively involved and showing a genuine interest in our Inquiry learning about Government. She eagerly contributes her ideas, takes initiative during group activities, and demonstrates leadership by encouraging and supporting others. Her positive involvement is a wonderful contribution to our class learning.

   

• Year 4 - Annie Cain for working hard to improve her mathematical knowledge and understanding, and for persevering when faced with challenging tasks. She shows determination, is willing to try different strategies, and continues to build her confidence as a mathematician.

• Year 5 - Chilli Thomas for a wonderful start to her time at Myrniong, working hard in all areas and contributing positively to our classroom culture.

• Year 5 - Shriaan Golwala for displaying an excellent work ethic and application to classroom tasks, particularly mathematics and making an effort to share insightful ideas during class discussions about our class novel.

   

• Year 5 - Harry Parfrey for applying himself to all his work with determination and care, improving in his maths and spelling and thinking creatively to overcome challenges.

   

• Year 6 - Delilah Brennan for seamlessly settling into Year Six and being a wonderfully positive addition to our classroom community.

   

• Year 6 - Penelope Copley for a positive start to Term Three, consistently trying her best in every learning task and being a welcoming, kind, and helpful classmate. Keep up the fantastic work!

Hockey

Congratulations to the Girls’ Hockey 7s team who won the Greater Western Regional Final on Tuesday. College won all their matches, scoring 25 goals and conceding none. They progress to the SSV State Hockey 7s Finals in Melbourne on Thursday 10 September. 

Well done to the team - Sammie Price, Tilly Cameron, Maggie Wallis, Anika Nelson, Milla McClure, Hazel Johns, Lucy Cameron, Harriet Small and Harriet King, coach Mr Tim Cameron and manager Mrs Bec Small. 

A big thank you to the College P&F for running the canteen, Senior School parent Kate Bailey for her coffee van and Louise Patterson for all her efforts in coordinating the Boys and Girls Regional Finals.

Under 10 College Vikings had a 2-0 win over Demons Red.

Under 13 Warriors had a 7-1 win over Demons Blue.

Under 13 Chiefs had a 3-2 win over Coleraine Maroon.
