Principal's Report
Simone Roy
The handover meeting that was planned for Friday, 13th March has been moved to Tuesday the 24th. We are hoping that this will be the last meeting and will mark the end of the rectification works. We look forward to being able to start using these long awaited, but nicely updated facilities.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 7 and 9 students started this week, and the first day of testing on Wednesday was postponed in the end, due to technical issues with the test. The students showed great patience and persistence with the testing platform and showed good humour throughout.
Conferences (formerly Parent Teacher Interviews) are being held on Tuesday 31st March, from 4 – 7pm. This provides families an opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers and discuss their child’s learning progress during Term 1. 10 minute meetings are available and the booking for these meetings will be open in Compass from Monday the 23rd. If you have any problems booking, please contact the office for assistance.
These conferences provide students an opportunity to hear more about their progress in class and ways to extend themselves. As such, we strongly encourage students to attend with their families so they play an active part in the discussion about their learning.
We understand that it can be hard to book a time with all teachers, due to family and teacher availability. We strongly encourage that you contact the teacher directly at school if you are unable to attend the Conferences and want to discuss your child’s progress.
The End of Term 1 Progress Reports will be made available on Compass next Friday. These reports are completed in Weeks 4 and 8 of each term and help to monitor student learning habits in class. All students should be able to achieve working at a level of 3, the expected level. In the End of Term Progress Reports, a fifth behaviour is assessed, being Home Study Habits. This assesses students’ habits relating to homework being completed and submitted on time. A copy of the Progress Reports matrix, which students are being assessed against will be attached to the Compass post when they are available.
Next week is the first meeting of the new School Council, beginning at 6:15pm in Room 9. The start of this meeting is when office bearers are elected for the year, followed by the usual agenda items.
All school community members are welcome to observe this meeting.
