Year 5 Newsletter Report
Our Grade 5 students had a fantastic day at Water Safety Day at Mount Martha Life Saving Club. With perfect weather, it was an ideal setting for students to build their understanding of staying safe around water from the expertise of the Lifeguards.
Throughout the day, they learnt valuable skills such as, how to use a life vest and rescue tube. During the paddle boarding session, students developed their balance, coordination, and confidence on the water, while also learning how to safely get on and off the board and what to do if they fell in.
A highlight for many was racing on the sand in a fun game of capture the flag, which brought plenty of energy and excitement. The day provided a wonderful balance of learning and enjoyment, helping students develop confidence and awareness in water safety.

Year 6 Newsletter Report
The year 5’s & 6’s went on an excursion to Mount Martha beach to learn about water safety, and play many games!
Sadly the weather for some classes were not the best so they didn’t get to go in the water. But to make it up we spent more time on the sand. On the sand we played cricket, capture the flag, built sand castles and we also played this really fun game called trenches.
Up stairs we learned more about first aid and safety such as how to do CPR, being aware when someone is in danger, how to help them and more.
Some of the water activities is when we throw the ball into the water and whoever swims and grabs the ball first wins. Another thing we did in the ocean is life saving. We got into pairs and then someone pretended to drown so the other person had to save them using a rescue tube which looks like a yellow, long, banana-shaped foam tube with a strap. Lifeguards use this tool to save people when they are in danger in the water but mainly they use it for someone closer to the shore.
Overall we had a blast! Learning about water safety, chatting with lifeguards and playing many fun games.
Thank you for reading!
