From the Deputy Principal

Welcome back to Term Three!

What a joy to have our bustling, buzzing, fun, engaged students back on campus for Term Three.  

We welcomed the new term with a very special NAIDOC Assembly and we really appreciated the performance of the Moorditj Nop Noongar dancers.  We heard from Lewis Ward, our Indigenous Student Support Officer, and Uncle Lindsay Dean about the significance of NAIDOC and the importance of us all walking together. There are lots of student activities on during the course of the week and I hope you'll hear about those at home.

Term Two ended in a flurry of activity with the Canberra Tour, Year Eight Art Focus Day (a big thank you to Ms Rachel Mordy), academic reports being released and the Country Week team heading to Perth.  With 4,600 adolescent athletes all in one place competing in Perth it was a week of healthy competition, the joy of being together and quite a lot of strapping tape!  A big thank you to Mr Paul Donaldson, Mrs Olivia Orzel and Mrs Renae O'Donnell, along with the coaches and support staff.  Whilst all that was going on, students at school were busy with end-of-term projects and an alternative program for Years Ten to Twelve.  And then, it was all over. 

Whilst it is quieter on campus during the holidays, when even the seagulls give up on visiting us for snacks (!), it certainly doesn't mean nothing is happening.  During the holidays, here at GSG the work continued. Over the break, there has been significant work on school buildings and around the grounds, with some of our students joining the Facilities Team to support them with the important work of maintenance and improvements; which included work on play spaces, garden beds, insulation to name just a few jobs.  Our Finance Team kept the wheels turning and we thank all staff who worked during this time.  We also welcomed families who visited the school to take school tours and have enrolment interviews as we looked forward to seeing 11 new students join our community.  We know they will love it here!  

Thank you to all our parents who took the opportunity to meet with teachers during our Parent-Teacher Interviews, to discuss your child's academic progress and make sure we keep up our team approach to learning.  This is a key ingredient for a successful partnership to make sure our children thrive.  Please keep in touch with us during the term with any questions or feedback.  It promises to be a productive term as we continue planning for 2027.  See you soon.
