Year 3

Year 3 have had a fantastic and productive term filled with rich learning experiences across all subject areas!

In Literacy, students have been enjoying reading Matilda by Roald Dahl. The students have loved exploring the characters, especially Matilda’s courage and resilience, while developing their comprehension skills through discussion and written responses. In Writing, students have been learning about persuasive devices, including emotive language, rhetorical questions, and strong arguments to convince their audience. They have also been exploring the structure of a narrative, learning how to organise their stories with sizzling starts, a plot and satisfying resolutions.

In Mathematics, students have been building their understanding of place value, recognising the value of digits in hundreds of thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. They have also been developing a range of addition and subtraction strategies, including partitioning, number lines and vertical methods, helping them solve problems with increasing confidence and accuracy.

In Wellbeing, our focus has been on emotional literacy, through understanding how body language communicates feelings. Students have practised recognising emotions in themselves and others, building empathy and positive communication skills. We have also been learning about rules, laws and consequences within communities, discussing why they are important and how they help keep people safe, ensure fairness and support everyone to thrive.

We are very proud of the enthusiasm and effort Year 3 continues to show in all areas of their learning!
