Year 5 Waste Warriors 2026
This years Year 5 cohort have begun their whole school Waste Warrior effort with great enthusiasm and dedication as they collect all classroom waste bins every Tuesday after recess and prepare them for waste collection. Thank you for your efforts.
Classroom Waste Warriors
Last Tuesday, our Semester One Classroom Waste Warriors met with Mrs Whatmore and Miss Michelle to learn more about their important role for the semester ahead.
Their first task was to complete a classroom sustainability checklist, ensuring each room is equipped with the correct waste stations: landfill, recycling, recycled stationery, reusable paper, and a tissue bin. This helps every class stay organised and committed to reducing waste across our school.
The students also watched an inspiring video featuring young people leading the fight against waste, reminding us all that today’s youth have the power to make a real and lasting difference.
Throughout the semester, our Classroom Waste Warriors will introduce and support sustainable initiatives within their classes. The first focus will be Nude Food, encouraging waste-free lunches and environmentally friendly choices.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact these student leaders will make in our school community!
Garden Club has started - Tuesday lunchtimes
We are delighted to have Garden Club going again with Ms Anne, our local parishioner gardener, helping us once again.
Thank you Anne for your kind donation of kale, broccoli, cauliflower and bean seedlings to get our edible garden going.
Our peach and apple trees survived the summer and we were able to enjoy some of the fruits before the birds got to them. Our keen gardeners enjoyed tasting the green apples this week.
Our central bed will focus on vegetables this year while we will introduce more herbs and natives to the outer beds. Recently Anna Malone from Bayside Council visited and conducted a Garden Habitat Assessment and she provided several recommendations to improve our garden over time to bring more pollinators and wildlife into the garden.
If you are interested in providing any plant/seed/seedling donations, please email mperpina@smhampton.catholic.edu.au
